Hi all,

Just thought I'd check before ordering one that this is the correct rising rate pressure regulator. Do I need an adjustable one, or does this one do that on its own?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG-METRO-TURBO-FUEL-...%3A1%7C294%3A50

Thanks,

james.

Looks like the right one to me. It is adjustable on the top. Set it to give 3-4psi at idle and away you go.

Modifying it is easy and the fittings are very cheap, I only paid £6 per fitting but stay away from the 60 degree ones mucho dinero.

Getting the braided hose into the fitting, night mare *angry*

modifying you say...
What do you need to modify?
I think I'm going to use normal 6mm fuel pipe with jubilee clips for now, just to get it back on the road, then may upgrade to braided at a later date...

I thought it was cheap too, I've seen them sell used on here for that lol

Yeah i got loads of stuff from the states when i was there. still not got round to fitting it though.

I'm using jic -6 for all the feed and return with a -8 feed to the fuel pump from the swirl pot (new setup!). Also got a pump with JIC fittings, bulkhead fittings, the lot.

I've fitted a couple of hose ends and havent found it bad at all, use a cutting disk in my cut-off tool and loads of insulation tape. Bit of lube is needed, i used vaseline or something i seem to remember!

Cheers Iain im freindly with my local hydraulic company so they can sort all the fittings for me. Im not really after the goodridge type ones just the standard looking ones. Just to make taking the carb and regulator off easier.

I had all the pipes graded for application, also the pipis used are the ones recomended for those fittings, Ill dig out the part numbers and post them up. The adaptors are 1/8 BSPT to JIC

You will need an 11/32 drill and a 1/8 BSP tap. The original un modified part has interferance fit brass fittings that can be pulled out with a pair of pliers. They are not threaded, you have to drill and tap the body to take adaptors so you can fit the JIC pipe finishers

No they don't have to be modified if you use the normal rubber fuel pipe.

the normal turob fpr ISNT rising rate. a rising rate reg will just overpower the needle valve in teh float chamber on boost :)

you want a regulator (like the one you linked too) that holds the fule pressure a SET (not rising) amount above boost pressure :) only adding this pedantic bit incase anyone searches and finds the reference and buys the wrong thing :)

Now the passage below is referin to an EFI setup but reads just the same dor a Metro turbo set up. So rising rate it is.

The regulator maintains the pre-determined pressure and returns any fuel unnecessary to that task back to the fuel tank.

At times, in demand situations such as high acceleration, the engine needs more fuel. Rather than program a second set of fueling parameters to deal a special situation, one can take another route to the same place by using mechanics rather than ECU programming. In this case, these regulators are used. By having it react to engine vacuum (hose to the plenum), you can have it increase or decrease the fuel pressure on demand. In doing so, you are injecting more fuel though the injector duration remains the same.

no, rising rate it isnt.. you want a regulator that holds the fuel pressure a set amount above the manifold pressure. at 0psi gauge (wide throttle off boost) you want the fuel pressure to be 4psi. at 10 psi gauge (i.e. 10 psi of boost) you want the fuel pressure to be 14 psi. etc

a rising rate regulator is a bodge for efi cars that have had the boost turned up, as the fuel pressure increases at a rising rate (hence the name) rather than a linear rate. so at 10 psi of boost in the above example, fuel pressure would become, say, 20psi. the needle valve cant hold back a pressure differential of 10psi and would flood the motor. you do not want a rising rate regulator for a carb application (or any application to be ohnest, as it is a bodge)

actually the name may be derived from a shorthand of rising ratio, either way i stand by what i said, rising rate isnt suitable for carbs.

Thanks for all your help on this one :)
At least its the correct one anyway.
It arrived today in the post. Great delivery.

So which pipe do i connect to where lol *oh well*

Looking at it, there is a couple of arrows. I'd assume the TOP pipe is the boost pipe in, the RIGHT pipe is the fuel in, the LEFT pipe is fuel out (to carb) and the BOTTOM pipe is the fuel return (to tank) does this seem about right?

Thanks,

James.

Remove the pipe that goes to the carb from the reg, place a pressure gauge here, switch pump on, adjust screw on top until gauge reads 4psi, sorted.
