Never tried to pick up brake cleaner to clean something - usually I reach for the acetone (that i can buy from the B&Q equivalent by the gallon over here) but this is pretty scary stuff!

I knew two blokes at BAe who were killed by 111 trichloroethalene. It is scary stuff it can be absorbed through the skin and sits in your liver and kidneys. The fumes can over come you in a blink of an eye. I wont go into the details of what happened but one bloke died trying to save the other and the other men that rushed to help also ended up in hospital.

Own the day

Surprising that, there's more empty bottles than tools in your garage!

Hmm, that is worrying.
Gonna read what it says on the brake cleaner I have in the garage..

I always buy boxes in stead of 1 can at the time.
Very usable stuff; starting old lawn mowers (and cars) to cleaning the garage floor and driveway ofcourse :) ..etc etc

May have to get more carfull, thanks for the heads up :)

Just checked my brake cleaner, not the same as above and all non chlorinated. Thats a relief.

Superglue or Cyanoacrylate by anopther name gives you the clue in the name what it might give of!

Another one to watch out for is stainless steel pickling solution. Used to clean the welds in stainless. This stuff is bad. The fabricator where i was working a while ago had it on a rag with no gloves on!!!!!!!!

Hydrofluoric acid

I'm a tig welder in the aerospace industry and use a load of chemicals for various cleaning and acid etching of materials prior to welding. Before I use any chemicals, mix up solutions or even use a chemical I read basic information on what the chemical contains. I get paid for wasting time at work! lol.
This really does point out though that in the garage at home we all do just tend to pick something up and use it as well as assume that it has been tested and is 100% safe. I'm checking everything from now on!

wow didn't know that - although I don't think you can buy "proper" brake cleaner any more.
