Which cones have you got? Hilo with the standard rubbers New rubbers, old rubbers? the rear are still the original rubbers, but are in very good condition with about 1/4" shorter than a brand new un settled rubber. The old front rubbers were deffo shot as they were considerably shorter than the old rears, and the old rears were not that much different from the new fronts, remembering that the new fronts still need settling. I think i'll be buying some red spots. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

I'm thinking maybe a nylon block on the subframe just behind the knuckle seat. The only thing is that there is a lot of leverage at that point. I'll need to look at it a bit more. Thanks mate, train of thought started:) On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

Will a nylon block not be a pain if you need to drop the arm further in the future though? With Jim's method you just wind the bolt out of the way.

I use the GAZ lowered dampers, and this is not a problem with Hi-Los and a medium lowered car. However, my car is a slow as it's practical. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

its clear the your shocks arent that short, just strap the rad arm the the subby, how many times a week are you jacking up colin? Not that much, but, I had the car off the ground on the road not so long ago
Then there is the MOT, not good if it falls apart when they jack it up to check everything is tight
Im not keen on any sort of usage of a strap. I had thought about this, but then what happens to the strap when its not taut? I'm liking the droop stop idea Jimster and GreameC are talking about. This isn't a new problem, there must be a decent way in which this is resolved. I had a look on Minispares, and they have a document which lists the damper open lengths, though I think its a little out of date now. But its clear that there really isnt much in it between standard and 'lowered' lengths. I could well have been sold the standard length dampes, but the box deffo said they were for lowered cars, thats not to say they were in the wrong box, and to be honest, I wouldnt put it past the person who sold them to me. Moss are not exactly the best when it comes to getting the simple things right. Im such a fussy bastard

Traxspax wont be suitable for a road car and also i believe the hilo's have been machined down so they fit as the shocks are so short... i think that makes sense Edited by sturgeo on 1st Sep, 2009. |
