after missing out on iains internal linkage i'm thinking about making my own.

Has anyone tried using something like these for the joints?

Just trying to be cheap really cos i know the proper ones are pricey from demon tweeks.

TBH the Ka things would probably be fine, I presumed it would be able to take the forces involved, and have enough angles of movement

its not breaking them thats the problem, its having accurate movement that is.

They're so awkward to get adjusted right i think any movement in the joints will cause gear selection problems.

I'm sure i've heard that people using socket ones haven't been sucessful.

Socket UJ's are not true UJ's as the pivot centers are offset causing non uniform drive transmission, and are susceptable to unwanted lateral movement.

shattered on the first movemnt of the lever, I wondered if they would work myself. they were 3/8 ones.

whats the diameter of the shaft? just looking other places for UJ's (hoping to be cheaper than nic's place) and there obviously listing quite a few OD's and if i weld the UJ in i want a matching size

would i need a UJ with a centre bore then? for the shaft to sit in then pin into place?

just because its snap on doenst mean its any better than the rest, all it means is its good for the job it was designed for, i.e. not changing gears! lol!

end of the day, when building turbo minis, if you going to the lengths of putting the gear change inside its not the largest amount of money you'll ever spend!

A can tell you first hand that a snap on socket has plenty of movement! no good!

I would love to use the racetech ones in mine when i do it, and also possible in the steering column, just not sure i could be prepared to stump up that much on a few UJ's.

Although i don't doubt that they are not worth in, as i bet they are quality items.

have a look in minimag this months page 70 the gear linkage in there is a socket set uj and socket set extension bar and the guy says it jumps out of gear all the time

KAD sell some decent UJ's for just under £40 each. seem cheaper then the demon tweeks ones.

The ones on that site as with all the other sites that sell these joints are unfortunatly nothing more than generic machine drive UJs.

Now theres nothing wrong with them and i myself use and sell these , but its the big sell bullshit that winds me up, the " our jonts have this and our joints have that",
when in fact they simply buy them in and ship them out + 50 % markup,
nothing wrong with that either ,

also they claim to leave them blank for you the poor mug to have to fooking modify to fit because the twats can't be arsed to supply different bores for locating, lazy nobs/.

Selector shaft is 1/2" IIRC and steering column universal joints will definately be upto the job! They're about 2" wide FFS and designed to withstand wear otherwise every new car would fail the MOT on column play..

im going to be building an internal linkage soon, how many UJ's will i need?
