How many feet would you travel per second at 30mph?

Cheers
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

5280ft in a mile, 60mph=1 mile per minute, 60s in a minute in 1 second you travel 1/60th of a mile. 1/60th of 5280 = 88fps, 30mph (half 60 / 88fps) = 44fps.

Hope this helps *happy*

Edit : Just for future ref.

doh!!

glad she's ok,

if there are skid marks, measure them, im sure theres a rule of thumb the police use for skids to estimate speed.

Interesting to see what they make of my boxers.

Glad to hear she is ok, maybe time to put another one of your products up for sale on here. Got you a holiday last time. Maybe a new car this time!!

TBH I think the investigation will go nowhere.
Just been back to the scene. Its a mini roundabout, my Mrs pulled up to it, stopped looked to the right as usual. The view to the right is obscured by trees and bushes and you cant see very far. It was howling with rain, 9pm so dark too.
She could see headlamp beams coming but not the headlamps of the car so by my calculations the car was around 40 - 50ft away - plenty of space to pull out. She did so and got hit on the rear wheel.
The other car was probably going no more than 30mph but approaching a roundabout in the rain and dark in a built up area he should have been slowing down really which would have given plenty more time for the Mrs to pull out.
Its down to her but I do believe the other guy was going way too fast for the conditions but theres nothing I can do about it.

I seriously doubt it!

Maybe a complaint to the council that the obstruction caused by the plants has caused an accident??

With that sort of sighting the other car should have had sufficient time to slow enough to avoid a crash. However i sence this will be a 50/50 claim.

If she was hit on the near side its the third parties liability. If she was hit on the off side then technically she pulled out infront of a car on a round about.

The speed of the other car will not be a consideration if any of the above applies.

Exactly, as I said, it will go nowhere.
Fucking annoying though as there was no car in sight (only headlamp beams) so he clearly was going too fast.
The other thing is that from the skid mark which is on the white painted mini roundabout and the position of the cars at the time of impact, he didnt even drive around it - he actually crossed the roundabout itself, but no proof.

LOL, yes I will.

Looks like the Vitara is fooked. The back axle is pushed over about 3" and the wheel goes round egg shaped so its bent too. The boot door dont open and close very well so Im guessing the chassis is bent.

I seriously doubt it!

(Ignoring the fact that he would struggle to go round the roundabout if he was skidding and the fact that the skid would be longer on a wet painted roundabout.)

If he struck the rear corner of your wife's vehicle after traversing straight across the top of the roundabout (whether intended or not) then surely your wife was 'on' the roundabout at the point of his approach, she did not pull out in front of him or fail to give way to a vehicle approaching from her right.

I believe that 'approaching from the right' means a vehicle already on the roundabout or due to enter it at the same time as you - a vehicle still coming upto the roundabout (even if there entrance is to the right of yours) is not technically approaching you from the right.

When you sketch the scene make it clear that he drove over the roundabout view the road again! You may even have a counter claim for wreckless driving as he technically could have been on the wrong side of the road. Get your missus down to the doctors as women do suffer soft tissue injuies in the lumber region from the slightest impacts. You can turn this around very easily *wink*
