Hi,

Just wondering if any of you have laid up insurance for you projects while they are being built? Also do you have insurance for trailering them?

Just looking into a couple of things and wondered who the best insures are for this sort of thing?

Cheers Ross.

We don't insure thehillclimber for racing, but we do against theft of it and our tools and race kit. It is also covered for being trailered.

Try richard egger, or competition car insurance.

I have laid up insurance on my Auto 998 with Adrian Flux, costs about £65/year for a value of £3K.

Ive never bothered before but my new project is worth covering for what the policy seems to cost.

I have it for my '99 Cooper.

I dont get time to drive it but really dont want to sell it. HIC charged me £84 for the year, i was pretty happy with that.

seems odd but will that help increase the no claims entitlement? i hope it does.

Adrian Flux - £90 per year for the van for Fire & Theft Laid Up Cover whilst in build against an agreed value then of £5k, basically for the shell and the sum of the parts being fitted.

Converted to full comp cover, with a policy upgrade, when I put it on the road June last year. Didn't incur any undue charges for doing this.

Not sure about the trailering bit. Not something I get involved in.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

I tried to get laid up cover for my TVR but Admiral wouldn't do it because of the value of the car which means I'm still paying fully comp insurance for a car I can't drive. I hadn't really considered it for my Mini as it really doesn't look desirable so I can't see it being worth the expense.

Im going to give competition car insurance a ring, had a look on their website following bens recommendation and they look ideal for what im after.

On a side note just looking through the cover that you all have,is the maximum agreed value 5k or is it just coincidence that its the value of your cars.

Seriously considering this, I was offered it when I mentioned that the car only sees day light for about 4 months of the year. It would slash my premium!

Just spoke to competition car insurance, the guy was very helpful and actually knew what he was talking about.

They had a policy that covers the car in the garage (or other storage depending on what you have),being transported around on a trailer and also spares/tools etc.As he put it,it covers your car and all your gear as long as its not moving under its own steam.

In terms of valuing the car he asked how much it would cost to build again ie put you back to the same point as you were should anything happen.

I got a quote on a car valued at 10k and around 2k worth of tools etc.Covered in my locked garage and for trailering, came to £17 odd a month after a small deposit which i think is pretty decent.
