Er, you seem to have set up a "Vote" mate?! I'm a bit too far away to pop round and help, but, to coin a psychiatrist phrase;

"what seems to be the problem?"

At a risk of sounding unhelpful, a Mini loom really isn't too hard to get hooked up. Most of the stuff in the car can only plug in, in one place.

So help us out, does anything work? Nothing? Have you got the majority of it plugged in?

As above, it should be straightforward, but....

....why did you need to get a "new" one off eBay - what was wrong with your original ???

Unfortunately, they are not all the same depending on year etc...

id say, off hand, if your having to short the solenoid, then you haven hooked up the ignition barrel wiring correctly

is this the only issue?

dont want to sound like a cunt, but just bite the bullet and take it to a professional, if you dont know what your doing, you can do more harm than good playing about with the wiring

last thing you want is a fire

I'd second Joeybaby.

You're gonna fry your new loom mate if you carry on the way you are.

Better off waiting for someone to see it.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Of the two really big cables, which comes from the battery and which goes to the starter motor ??? The one with the browns on the same lug should be the one from the battery. From the photo, they might well be the wrong way around.

And WTF is a pink/white wire doing on the solenoid ??? Pink/white is usually the code for ballast coil feed.

And who on earth put the blue crimp connector on the small browns (???) without even putting the cables into the crimp properly in the first place ??? And if they are small brown (photo is blurred) they don't belong on that tag.

If you have the Haynes manual, look up the wiring diagram for the year of that loom - the wiring diagrams carry the colour codes.

There was some variation over the years but basically there was a "Lucas" standard back then when every colour combination meant something, for example, brown is allways unfused battery, pink/white is specifically defined as ballast coil feed etc.

So, unless your photo is really blurred on colours, some bits are in the wrong place.
