So I've bought myself a new daily driver, the bodywork is in pretty straight nick, so to keep it nice I'd like to give it a good coat of some kind of polish.

Now I'm no polishing expert, and if anyone says the word "detailing" then I will ban them!
Normally the extent of my polishing would be some Auto Glym paint renovator if it is dull, followed by some Auto Glym Super Resin polish.

Now this is probably OK for the junior polisher, but basically is there something out there that is going to protect better? I don't want to spend a fortune, but would go maybe up to £30 or so.

The only other thing is that preferably I can go somewhere and buy it tomorrow morning.

So fire away guys!

From one Gimp to another .......

I use Meguire's NXT 2000 polish on the van. it's about £17 at Halfords.

Its magic and doesn't dust up like other products.

Meguire's has the best range of products you can buy IMO. used to use Mer and Autoglym in the past but this stuff knocks them into touch.

I won't mention Meguire's do a rather splendid NXT Speed Detailer which is a 5 minute job to apply once you've waxed it. Oops !

Happy rubbing.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

dodo juice its the bollocks.... its about 30 a tub and it will tickle your hairy bits with the results.

But before you do:

Wash, Clay the car whilst wet, wash again dry and then polish.....

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

It was available at a local company that valets cars.
If not the Auto Glym extra gloss protection is good but the claying will produce the results just keep the panel wet it will remove all the crap off the car you will be shocked how dirty it is after its washed.

I recently started using Zymol shampoo and wax/polish. Think it was about £5 for the shampoo an £14 for the polish/wax and its blooming good stuff, good shine to it and its fairly easy an quick to use. After 1 coat the wax was doing a great job of keeping streaky marks of the paint after rain.

I'd rate it over the Auto Glym and Meguires stuff I have used in the past.

Yup, the funny thing was, when the vxr club was at the btcc last year, his car looked no different to the other 20-30 astras.

If you use clay, you need to use a wax afterwards because claying leaves the paint open to the elements.

I would recommend a good polish with super resin polish (if a light coloured car) or ultra deep shine (very good on blacks) and then a decent wax over the top to hold the shine.

I'm not sure I can be arsed with all this claying malarkey. But there obviously is a difference between a polish and a wax, so what is a good wax I can get to go on after the Super Resin Polish or maybe some of the Meguiars stuff as mentioned above.

It is just a newer A4 Avant, 1.9 TDI 2 wheel drive this time. Nothing at all exciting about it, but I think it is a nice car.

I've heard good things about the Farecla wax top stuff but I haven't tried it yet. I am also curious about this Zaino Z2pro stuff, sounds like it offers pretty good protection as well as shine but a bit pricey.
