In a T3 it will cause the compressor to see fluctating outlet pressures which would see the compresor speed up and slow down many times a second, and hammer the crap out of your bearings, not good.

I would say unless the system has been designed to manage this dont try to replicwte the conditions that produce this.

My mini has never had a dumpvalve, they do my head in. T3 are peanuts to pick up so dont see it been a problem. They last a long while before they start smoking!

I just bought an HKS SSQV:$ I notice you can fit a recirc addapter so that's a bonus, plus it doesn't open at idle.

drive your car, put your foot on the throttle. Then take it off again. It will make the noise you want .

Obviously if you have a very quiet intake system you may not hear it. And if you have a dump valve, it wont do it.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

ahhhh c .. so the noise comes out of the induction kit ..?

The noise is created by the air being forced back out through the blades on the compressor wheel (thus stalling it) when the throttle plate closes. So yes, the sound technically comes out of the air filter.

I don't know how anyone who understands what is happening and has any form of mechanical sympathy can allow this to happen more than once. The DON did it once, I knew something was wrong, and it was the vacuum hose had come off the dump valve.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Tom - its fine on a t3...

On other turbos its the kiss of death, a T4 for example!

Is that because of the higher inertia in bigger turbos?

that's a pretty fine idea!

mine is a royal pita, you only have to come to a slight incline and the load on the engine can make the turbo start to spool and whoosh out the DV, i either end up backing off or putting my hoot down so the DV closes.

hmmm, maybe i can add a throttle controlled cutoff so the dv stays shut below about 1/4 throttle....
