Today my car reached the big 200,000 miles. This afternoon I am going out to look for a new car. Just though I would share this as I think it is quite good.

Nope she is going. The turbo makes no boost, the suspension whurs and clunks a lot and the engine keeps going to limp home mode. Nothing major is wrong, all the electrics work, but I could spend £400 on it only for something else to break.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

I had a 1989 Sierra 2.3D which did 500k on the original engine. The engine was still spot on when it went to scrap but the body had fallen off it! I suppose the secret to it's logevity was that it was a low stressed engine only 65bhp and 100lbft. It was slow as hell accelerating but once you got it in top it would keep pulling all the way off the clock.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Heh. We used to call her the tank. Used to go through bottom arms like crazy due to the hefty diesel pug lump in the nose.

I think I did 50k in that Sierra when it was a Taxi! It was a superb piece of British Engineering.

Some dumb bint pulled out of a junction into it, made a small dent in the door and a 1" split in the wheel arch. 10 minutes prep and welding fixed that. Wrote her car of - needed a full front end!

It had a french engine. Although with a ford head on it.

I just sold my old A4 Neil with 167k on the clock, got £1600 for it. So I'm sure you'll have no problem. Pistonheads did the trick for me.

Tom, I was very pleased with the lemon, good suggestion. I would have another, but they are all a bit old and the C4s are too expensive.

There is nothing wrong with the engine really, it uses no oil, I am just cutting my losses.

I have been to see two Nissan Almeras today. First one was really tatty. Second was tidy but the clutch was shagged and it needs two new tyres. I suspect as it was privately owned that the owner saw the tyres and clutch coming and traded it in. This is why I like company cars.

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

I was a bit gutted about my mileage this week - my Suzuki Baleno (don't ask) rolled past 118118 but I didn't have a camera.

Still getting 45mpg from a 1.6 petrol though, pretty happy with that at the moment! And at 450 miles/week commute I can't justify getting rid just yet. Besides, Mini will be back on the road in spring...

Nissan Almera? Have you driven one?

Not wanting to put you off, but I had one of these of about 03 plate vintage as a hire car once, I thought it was utterly dreadful, the worst thing I've ever driven. This was a 1.5 petrol of some variety. Engine was rorty and noisy and yet had no power. Suspension was wallowly on slow speed corners and yet bone shaking on the motorway. Compared to a Focus of similar vintage, well there is no comparison.

Sorry.
