That's what he told me, so i've just treated myself to a 32" LCD for Xmas.

He better be right *indifferent*

I've got a Toshiba Plasma, 2007 Plasma of the year (bought in 2008). It is fantastic, the HD in particular the blacks are very very clear.

I also have a 'Foen & hirsh' or something Lcd in the bedroom. It's an LG inside a black box. not bad at all. I think they are about £250 now for the 32" version.

Andy your telly is a Pioneer Kuro not Toshiba.

If you want full HD, and a screen no bigger than 40" lcd is our only option.

Oh yeah, shows how much I watch it. The £250 one is in the bedroom. From memory the pioneer one was about £1400 18 months ago for 42" - money well spent. Cornoation Street looks great *oh well*

The black Samsung plasmas are best value for money at the moment. Ive had a 42" LG plasma for 4 years now and am looking to replace it with the Samsung, not that theres anything wrong with the LG, I just want a 50"

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Googling the subject and the break point now appears to be 42".

I went for a Sony LCD, 1080p HD ready with built in Freesat. PS3 for blue ray/dvd/internet/iplayer/video & music library. Sony HT-SS100 for sound.

Not the cheapest but my 12 year old Sony crt is still going strong.

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

Get to Comet and look at them side by side with the same feed (other electrical stores are available). I find plasma quite blurred and grainy on fast moving images (footy generally) but Plasma's undoubtedly cheaper, there's no arguing that. LED and LCD are close to one another but LCD can never deliver "true" black as they are constantly back-lit and merely try and block the light. LEDs can be "turned off", but they're bloomin' expensive still (think they have "wider" viewing angles too).

I think for films and anything >42", Plasma is better because of the contrast it can achieve, LED better for sports & games, but merely my opinion. Unfortunately there are so many websites contradicting one another you're knackered trying to get an impartial view!

Personally I think there's no substitute for going and seeing the TV in action; some Plasmas will be better than LCDs and vice versa, irrespective of the Plasma/ LCD quandry.

Just ordered a 32" Samsung LED last weekend, it seemed to stand out above some of the others when compared side-by-side in the shop. Delivery not till Saturday, we'll see how it stacks up then!!!

wolfie, wait till the sales

when i was looking for a new telly for my old man late sept, i made sure it had:

min 40" screen
full 1080 HD (not 720)
min 100hz (most have 200hz now anyway i think)

i wasnt fussed if lcd or plasma, but expected to pay around 800 to 900 for a lcd and about 200 less for the plasma version, so tbh mainly looked at plasma

in the end i got a 40" LCD sony from M&S for £650 (was £1400 2 weeks earlier, but they were selling off old stock from the storeroom cheap as it had been replaced with a new model that was exactly the same but 200hz instead of 100),

Also knocked off another £100 if i took in any old telly as part ex

was pretty pleased with that

I just bought six month old 28" Sony Bravia from my sis, really need 32" minimum to be honest. Still a great tv though.

I have a a series 8 samsung 46" tv and its lovely. .
The actual LCD panels are made by LG, Samsung, and Philips....

So I would stick to one of those personally... with Sony you are paying for the name.
