Come on people, what has happened to this country?!!....

A little snow and ice and everything grinds to a hault. I was born and grew up in Scotland and have seen my fair share of heavy snow, things still got done, roads were cleared and salted, all the kids still went to school, and my dad went to work by car, snow chains and shovel in the boot!!

There is not even 6" of snow yet!!

It was the same in February. Its not like heavy snow is a new thing, we have had it before, 2000 was not that long ago!

All the Scandinavians are having a laugh at our expence, and to be honest, I am too going by recent events over here in the UK.

Its a farce

I agree! If I can make it into work in a mini, the lazy fuckers with 4x4's should have not problem! I turned up to work on Friday to an empty carpark.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I had great fun in the snow. :)

Drove one of those Renault Master vans from High Wycombe up to Huddersfield and back. Figured out eventually it had some sort of locked diff or traction control which was surprising but that was v. useful.

All those cars sliding about and then a hi-top lwb van comes motorboating past them *laughing*

I've just driven my usual 38 miles to work up the 'snowy' roads of yorkshire. Not once have I lost grip. Got pissed of a few times about the people who blatently can't drive in snow.

Our street was frozen over yesterday. I had a few minutes laughing at the cars sliding down it. With 20 seconds of instruction, my wife drove straight down it. no braking. no slipping and sliding. What is this country like. I think all common sense has been wittled away to nothing.

I think we are yet again selling ourselves short. Why is everybody so negative in this country and happy to jump on the 'Britain is crap' band wagon. We are no different to other countries.

You have to remember most people don't give a hoot about driving, or that there are different styles of driving to suit the conditions. Many just see the car as an easy way to get too and from work. some driving is bad enough in the dry let alone snow,

In all fairness Ben, we've had -1 degrees C and a 3 or 4" of snow. Europe has been hit far worse than us.

The M1 was clear this morning, but it didn't stop somebody putting their car down an embankment....

I don't see why we should expect that millions is spent on equipment to clear the roads when we generally only get snow for a few days a year.

How many of you have spent money on smow chains? no point is there?

I think it's far more silly to go to work on snowy roads without the decent tyres than to stay at home. I would NEVER have a drive on snow on summer tyres. Oh, if I did I'd loose my license.

I had to laugh when I saw an M3 CSL in York on Saturday. The tyres he had on aren't even suitable for the wet, never mind snow.

Yes, ven with 4WD my Subaru is still shit with RE050s on. Still better than the Sprint.

You cannot brake any faster with a 4WD, that's the problem..

Exactly. But I can drive sideways everywhere, really upsetting the wife, but my boys loved it!

I found myself getting very irritated at some tit on our lass's street revving the tits off his car spinning wheels up and down street trying to park. All he was doing was flattening the snow making it slippier for other folk.

I had no problems getting up and down the street in our gerts corsa just kept the revs down and used the clutch.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

What I am getting at is that it would seem that most people are too lazzy to get off their arse and shovel the snow off the paths and roads infront of thier house. Then there is the lack of grit bins for you, the general public to throw a little grit on the roads.

We live right next to one of the Highways Agency depots. The A56 is clear of snow and ice and always will be, but the roads on our estate are thick with ice. A grit bin and a little effort of those who live on the estate make all the difference. Leaving it be because its some one elses job 'I pay my tax' sort of thing is a lame excuse to have a jolly at home because you cannot drive the car up the hill as the road is frozen over. That does not cost much at all. The council keep giving us all more bins to put rubbish in, how much would two or three grit bins cost for an estate of 100 houses?

If everyone did that little bit, it wouldnt be half as bad. Granted not everyone is going to buy snow chains, but I recon more will be thinking about it in the next few years.

My natural colour is blue and only since I have been living in the North West have I matured to a colour resembling normal lol, I don't mind the cold one little bit.

We used to get the sledge out every year. was great fun

in an ideal world...however society expects things to be delivered to them these days

i live down a deadend road off a deadend road so its pretty dead and gets affected by snow and ice badly. although we dont get a shovel out it doesnt appear to stop everyone here from going to work as we just leave earlier

did piss me off earlier also when i was riding me scooter home trying to stay upright on the ice and this twat comes flying past overtaking the car happily sitting behind me down the middle covering me in slush doing about 50...cocky bastard

We have a grit bin outside the front of our house. It was put there last week and was empty within hours. I think it is there for the side street that doesn't get gritted.

Unfortunatly all the grit either ends up on the back of somebodies transit or on peoples drives. In feb I had to let a neighbour park their 3 series on our drive because they couldn't get up the side street to their house - no grit left...
