silly pics aside,
what did you all think of the tests?

i kinda knew about the bonnet being raised and that it will suck cold air in,
but dont know f-all about what can be done to lower drag etc....

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

What I took from the article was that you need to cover the entire car in 10Kg of silver duct tape

That its the pain of her life and i'm not touching it until the livingroom floor is finished.

I can gladly say that the livingroom floor is finished but the car is 6" deep in snow, so its at least another week before I can pull the engine, which means I now have to replace the conservatory floor. And that means more points for me *happy*

From what I read, it seems that a front splitter, side skirts (with a lip) and a smooth transition from floor to a rear undertray are of use.

Also it confirmed my theory that having minimum 'holes' in the front (for cooling etc.) hepls. We minimised ours and saw good improvements in speed.

so for example, a blanked off grille would perform better areodynamically??

Correct.

we blanked off all our holes and gained top speed at the end of the straight, but we had to put holes back in to keep the engine cool.

We also felt that the car was much more stable at speed, well it was more stable!

I've been thinking about fitting aluminum plates under the rear subframe. That has got to work!

Was thinking of something similar myself, for putting onto a Mini Marcos (using a centre exit exhaust), and wondered if a front splitter could be somehow incorporated into a kind of sumpguard type arrangement in order to smooth the airflow onto the floorpan.
Carbonweezel seemed to think something could be made.

ETA - do you think Dzus fasteners would work? Make working above the plates easier.
