I have just seen an adevert for specialist Components that mentions a new 7 port head out in Feb. Can we get any preview information? and maybe even an idea of cost?

Sure, We want to bring a product to market which in complexity terms is a lot easier and quicker to do than the K conversion but offers a whole heap of the benfits of it.

ooo I was wondering if anything new will be at Bingley... I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Probably a stupid question, but how do you machine water galleries into a solid piece of billet? Some very clever piece of machinery, that can bend into all sorts of weird angles?

good question - the yanks sometimes make the head in 2 or more pieces then weld the piece together and finish machine - I didn't fancy this option. So there is some very long drilling - from one side of the head to the other, at the heater tap end there will be a cover plate. Where the inlet ports would be on a 5 port there are drillings which go all the way to the edges of the chamber and pass through the long drillings going the other direction. Then there will be the std positions of water way on the A gasket which again meet up with the long drillings going through the head. The proto head will run thermocouples down the cross drillings to monitor temps around the chambers and ports.

cut in 1/2 and use JB weld to put it back together :) I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

same really, bolt on? or is it a case for new exhaust manifolds and stuff. you said about the inlet...does that rule out webers etc? |

Here is my big question that I have been thinking about / contemplating with one of the other 7 port heads out there. I currently run a suck through supercharger setup. What I was thinking was to bolt it to a 7 port head. ie mount my current inlet manifold so that it is effectively trying to blow into a dead end, i would blank the manifold so I didnt have to rely on the gasket. Then make a new single outlet from the manifold that i blow through an intercoller then into a plenum at he fron with fuel injection. What do pepole think. I hope you understand what I am getting at? |

John, have you considered an alloy 5 port at all?
I seriously doubt it! |

I have had similar ideas, but in my case that's way into the future. Sounds like the same principle as turboing a head like this. I think I will be keeping an eye on this head to see how well it performs and costs in comparison to the bike heads. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Paul - I think the 5 port in alloy and cast iron is pretty well covered?

I like the 7 port idea, but I agree with Paul W.

b-series heads are much bigger mike. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Even the best ported 5 port iron head can be improved upon if starting from scratch with billet I seriously doubt it! |

A billet 5 port is top on my wish list for the miglia but i might have to make do with the cast alloy one that med do. |
