Just been out with the tow rope to rescue Axel in the Mini 30. Luckiliy he had not got far before it started misfiring.

I knew what the problem was straight away. Fitted a new condenser and it seems to be fine.

Now that condenser has only done around 2000 miles from new.

Anyone know of a source of reliable condensers as I like to have one on stock for such occaisions?

The one I've just fitted is a Unipart from MS. I hope it lasts.

I know I should fit Megajolt before some smart alecs tells me.

I've heard a few people recently slating the quality of condensers. What about going for a 65DM4 if you don't want to go MJLJ?

I have all the Megajolt stuff ready to go on the car, but I was planning on leaving it until I got some of the other jobs done.

I've also got several 65D electronic jobbies, but I'd like to stick to the 45D with the correct advance curve for the 998.

Just wondered if there was a brand of condensers out there that you can trust. Certainly nothing you get at shows is any good.

As John above ^^^

Depending where you source it from, the advance curve may not be perfect for every engine but it will be reliable (worst case, fit a new amplifier module, ~£12) so long as you use the correct matching coil to go with it.

I once read a book by Des Hammil about budget 998 performance and apparently if you whip the thicker of the 2 advance springs out of the dizzy it ends up with a reasonable curve for a lightly modded 998.

Sorry, "We" have all the Megajolt stuff. Sturgeo will be kind to his younger brother.

Received advice is that nearly all the recently made condensers can be iffy.

Recommendation is to try and source Lucas old stock ones from Ebay etc.

As above, some people have gone through two or three before finding one that is reliable.

Well, we cured this problem by smashing the car into a lamp post - problem solved *oh well*

the condenser in this is the same i have had for years i robbed it out the dizzy off my first 998 i think john has cured it though there is a mechanism that nudges the point around so its not always arcing in the same spot, that was not in the right rotation in my dizzy witch john spotted, it was ok all the way home

It works for me.

Maybe you need to "like" Minispares then.

Strange, I have :S
I'm guessing you mean this 'A condenser issue on Fog meant for a torrid ZR2 for Bill, but things have picked up in the last 2 stages'
I'm still lost as to why people don't fit the 45d britpart electronic ignition kit for the sake of £15 from a land rover spares place if keeping a distributor. Replaced the points on my old engine with them and never had a problem.

is there any reason why another condenser cant be fitted to the outside of the dizzy .
ie run two condensers together in case one packs up .
not good with tricklics so dont know if possible

No reason at all not to fit an external condenser - and a spare ready to wire in if necessary.

My car club has had very mixed results with the Britpart conversion, mostly unreliable to a degree.
