Hi All,

Ok My hand has been forced on this a little so this news is going out to you a little bit sooner than I expected because of the competitive nature of the market we are in. It’s no great secret that a performance head we are developing is a modified 7 port version, produced in its raw form by the well established, Pierce Manifolds Company in California. Hickey Race Engineering are the Irish Distributor of these products, which are available for nearly a year, but now about to hit the market from a broad range of suppliers. As is customary with our innovative products, we refrain from releasing details until we are satisfied that the products have been thoroughly tested and deliver to the standards we say. We are working with one of these heads fitted to a 1400cc engine and commenced testing on the original head some time ago. We modified the original to enhance its flow characteristics and even as you read this, the engine is now undergoing some intensive dyno testing, so watch this space. We believe we have the best version of this head currently available, but we’ll let the figures do the talking for us.

we’re catering for a range of discerning owners by developing a FIS version and a Fast Road/Race version.

all of these heads will be available at affordable, competitive prices. We will sell the raw casting if you desire, but the feedback we received suggests you would rather have the refined finished product, in built up form, with the option of all the necessary components to customise to your requirements.

I am also not going to sit on the fence on the pricing I have got these heads in bulk form the states and priced them at what I believe to be a realistic pricing,

Basic Pricing:

7 Port Bare Casting, including studs, nuts, washers, spark plugs, inlet manifold gaskets, spacer plates for exhaust flanges, bronze valve guides24cc chambers. See Picture

Price: £980 + VAT
shipping to the UK in most cases will work out to be £40 to the UK

Full built 7 Port Head, with studs, nuts, washers, spark plugs, inlet manifold gaskets, spacer plates for exhaust flanges, valve springs, bronze valve guides, top caps, valve stem oil seals and valves (33.5mmin, 29.5mm ex standard) 24cc chambers.

Price: £1200 + VAT Pic to follow

Full built 7 Port Head, with studs, nuts, washers, spark plugs, inlet manifold gaskets, spacer plates for exhaust flanges, valve springs, bronze valve guides, top caps, valve stem oil seals and valves (33.5mmin, 29.5mm ex standard) and 2 Weber 40 Carburettors with linkages and trumpets. These Carburettors are also completely striped down and re-jetted and re-choked to suite the Intricacies of the 7 port.

Price: £1800 + VAT

Forced Induction Special: Full built 7 Port Head, with studs, nuts, washers, spark plugs, inlet manifold gaskets, spacer plates for exhaust flanges, valve springs, bronze valve guides, top caps, valve stem oil seals and valves (34mm in, 30mm ex ). 28 cc combustion chambers.

Price: £1300 + VAT

Fast Road spec to follow; Currently under development

Full Race Specification to follow; also currently under development.

We have also just finished a set of drawings for a custom Plenum for use with fuel injection and FI the proto type should be arriving early next month for testing.

I am afraid I don’t have any fancy Pictures of Ti top caps and fancy roller rockers what I do have is pictures of the bits the really matter:
Outer Inlet port

Inlet port inner

Combustion chamber

Here is a Picture of the worked inlet port on our Fast road version:

Going to be good to see price differences vs performance.

Be good to see them all back to back tested on the same engine, same dyno.

The reason the MED one is similar is because that is a pierce head aswell. It have to be when they are this similar

Correct by the look of it,
which is like most things in the mini scene, everyone claiming stuff to be there own design product, where in fact if the chinese/mexican shop that acctually cast these were to go bust that would be the end of that item,,

Dunno Sprox, the most powerful car engines ever built are 2 valves per cylinder driven by pushrods and chains with dizzys. If youre after power 7 port has to be the one to go for - after 5 port that is.

Paul

EDIT Just noticed aswell with this casting, looking at the chambers you deffo need to index the plugs correctly

Yes but they are massive lumps of iron and made there power from having a huge displacement as opposed to volumetric efficiency :)

not strictly true paul i thought the reason that TF cars stuck with the hemi layout was that it was a hell of a lot easier to strip and rebuild between runs if the need arose, whereas 16 V heada are usually much more complex and time consuming to maintain,

i could be wrong ,

Very good point Carl, but if multi valve was faster surely there would be atleast one out there.

I seriously doubt it!

Avtually, thinking about it just now whilst on the throne, pulling off a pair of 2 valve pushrod heads involves resetting tappet clearances on refitting.
16v would be easier as all you do is line up the timing marks and slip the belt back on. Granted theres more valves to lap in, but theyre not done after every pass.
So 2 valve is more complicated between passes, whats the reason they go to this effort? It must be because its better

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

its the fuel .nitro burns between the ex valves on 4v ally heads . they tried a steel insert ,and it worked ,but the top speeds were too high so they shelved it i think .
re specific bhp per litre on anything not oxygenated ,i think it still goes to the f1 bmw engine at 1330 bhp from 1500 cc .
