lads, an ambulance has took the front end of my mothers car out, their fault but the car was a write-off!!!

so my mother needs a very low milage car to keep long term
needs to have all the toys in it!
look as new as possible
be as low milage as possible

she aint to worried about brands but has always had toyotas but in this price range low milage examples are few

what i was thinking

rover 45 2.0TD why i think its a bmw turbo diesel motor
kia rio why its a 1.3 so cheap tax, its an estate! its hyundai/kai engine, should be ok, a bit of a blue-hair car but as a cheap long term car???
vw polo estate-its a vw

plz help as she's struggling to trust my judgment but if she was to trust me to get her a motor it would be an old triumph 2500 running lpg LOL

my mum is at an age i want her to have all the luxerys if possible!
plus she's going to ireland in it so its gotta be a good alrounder
good on fuel
cheapest tax possible

SKYLINES ARE LIKE CLITS, EVERY FLANGE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE: see this sticker on my silvia

I bought my mum a 52 reg Polo 1.2.

She is chuffed to bits with it, buy carefully and you can get the higher powered one (they do a 55 and 65bhp) with air con, all gadgets, and a cd player.

This is what my mum has, she is pleased with it. You should be able to get one at £3k. Good VW build, safety and reliability, plus if she looks after it, it will actually have some value when it eventually gets sold on.

Our lass has one of those. Its going rotten in a number of places, despite her brother owning it from new, and both of them looking after it.

PS only the Rover 75 uses the BMW engine. The 45 and 25 are the old Rover engine as in the 600 etc.

i should say i'm trying to get something that is a small estate like the polo!

or a very spacious but externally small saloon

basicly as i'm on the insureance so will borrow it to haul bits n bobs in shhhhhhhh dont tell my mum that! LOL

polo's i like as the engines are simple & i dont think they need special a tool to do the cambelt

the rover 2.0turbo diesel in the 45 must be the peugeot based one then????
thats ok pug diesels are superb are'nt they

nic that sounds right on the money LOl my maamwould say "they bonnet is too long" *surprised*D

she does'nt seem to go for fords at all 7 hates the ford KA

her car that got smashed was a 1997 toyota starlet that shes had ofr 10 years& it was a cracking car, no rust, mint engine, had 17000miles when she got it & 68000 when it got smacked 2 weeks ago, only the front indicator & wing were broken but it was'nt a "economical repair" *surprised*( pish i could have had it sorted for her in a weekend for £90 & my labour for tea & a full roast dinner! *surprised*P but then i'm not an insureance approved repairer using genuine new toyota parts! what a load of old toss, rant over! she was in tears when they took it!

my mom always says she'll sell her car in a years time 7 she has'nt ever lived up to that! shes had all her cars 5 years+ so i usually try to get a

1 previous owner car or
X-blue-rince brigade ultra low milage example so its still worth a bit in years to come

its quite hard to find a good low milage car at the moment! due to the scrappage scheme & ppl holding onto there cars due to being sencible with ttheir £££

No votes for a KIA rio, i'm suprised Tiff needel rates them on their handling 7 pokey motor for a 1.3???????

we looked at a kia rio & it was a 03 but basicly just like a 1997car inside abit old fashion but you get a fair bit for the money but unsure of kia???

seen a 2000 polo estate 32000 1.6 75hp had a very black interiour but solid!

rover well yeah its a rover but i actually like rovers to be honest, i liked the quilt like velour & plastic-wood & it was a smooth drive, that was a 2.0TD all the toys too, seemed pretty potent when a floored it on a duel caridgeway, owner was a bit nervous LOL

anyhoo i'm off to bed, good night all on turno minis keep a few ideas coming

her ideal car is a corolla! boring/reliable/crap paint colours but good cars

decisions decisions LOL ;OI

Wifey has a Honda Civic 1.6 Exec. Fantastic car, bullet proof and very well speced (leather, ellectric everything) The boot is massive with the back seats folded down.

The only time it's let her down in nearly 3 years is a flat battery when she left the interia light on.

i had a polo, did 32k in it in 2 years and all i did was get a dealer service and 2 front new tyres on it...kudos so i'd go with a 1.2 65hp (not 55hp)

my sister has my old T reg fiesta LX its done prob in the region of 170k and she doesnt look after it at all still going like a work horse.

btw greg keep it old skool keep it 8v this is a rallye with a surprise *wink*

For the record, the Rovers with TD-engines seem to be rather OK, compared to the K-seried ones.

I'd pay a little extra for a Golf than a Polo. A Golf is a proper car whereas the Polo is a shopping trolley.

been out to the auctions today!
it was rubbish!

3 cars i thought were OK
x2 saab tdi's
a seat tdi sport
honda civic 2.2tdi

all out of my momsprice range but for 3k the qulity of car is utter shite!

they're all old high mile motors!

i think i'll traul egay/autotrader/private adds

i think the search is going in the direction of a small 5door saloon/hatchback rather than a 3 door hatchback

In my opinion you want to be looking at either a small private dealer, or buying privately.

I can put you in touch with a personal friend of mine who deals only in decent stuff, low miles one owner etc. Based near Evesham so not a million miles from you.
He mainly deals in MG Rovers but may have something else in.

to be honest, you're asking a hell of a lot.

wanting new, low mileage, with toys all for 3k just isn't going to happen....

the nicer cars in that price range will all be high milers, or older which likely means less equipment.....

It depends if you will compromise really. Just looking at the guy I mentioned above, he has a 54 reg Rover 25 Streetwise - OK no real street cred whatsoever, but the head gasket issues are sorted by that age, and it looks to have all the gadgets, elec windows, ABS etc.
£2850.

Surely you could pick up a Hyundai or something that ticks all the boxes, very easily for £3k

The Rover td engines are very good. I'd buy one of them before a BMW engined car !!!

Plenty of Hyundai Accents, which are good reliable cars

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
