Check your buildings insurance. Storing Acetylene, which is the one of the most volatile substances known to man, may well void any insurance, which is why, we at work pick the cylinders up from the supplier, and then take them straight back, full or not, when the job is done. Really really bad in a fire!!! On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

you need to be licence to hold oxy acetylene rigs, cant even have porta packs now. i have a big oxy rig but as me gas has ran out i can no longer get it filled up anymore..... but to be fair i have achieved so much more with my gas mig than i ever did with my oxy set.

Good thing with gas welding is you don't have to be so critical cleaning the metal up. Handy with MOT work. On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

If you really want gas setup, why not go for oxy-propane? I'm not sure it is hot enough for gas welding, but its certainly good enough for heating things up etc, without having to have acetylene in your garage.

I have not heard about any licencing either and oxy acetylene is a important part of my work. That is not to say that the 'industry' is not getting tighter on regulations, cos it is. Its like applying for a passport just to get onto building sites these days!! On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

what about large bottles of any compressed gas or liquids at home....oxygen, Argon etc? All not safe in their own right. On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

as far as I am aware you might want to look into your house insurance with storing oxy acetylene, might find its void if something happens :( i find gas welding good but tends to buckle panels maybe it’s just me, I like mig and tig |
