Thats what I ran in the last engine, and after 5000 miles with high lift cam and rockers the cam still looks like new. I haven't stripped the rest of it down as I may use it again. It was ripped out for a 1380 engine.

I shouldn't think it not being turbo specific should be a problem, but then again there are much more qualified people than me who can answer this!

Yep mate.

I also use VR-1.

Damn fine brew and suits the box and turbo combo on the A/A+, a really good quality 20/50 IMO.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

i use cheap shitty MOTORWAY 20/50 at £3.20 for 4.5ltrs

change it every 1000miles & the filter every 3000miles

good oil pressures no metal bits on the magnet

why pay more???????

i'd like to see if there is a differance between my way & using a quality oil??? neglidgable

this is on a daily driver though, may be a differance on a car that heats the ooild super hot on track/drag strip!

we ran cheap oil in the metro van with regular changes. One weekend at avon and the main bearings where finished. 70% of the bearing face was gone

I suppose for the sake of x thousand pounds worth of engine and gearbox, 25 quid for a can of oil and a filter is not that higher price to ensure its lifeblood is good.

After hearing on here about i think i now use Millers CTV 20w50,, there is a feature in minimag about it that i did coming soon, have a read it might help, and seems to be the only oil so far that i've tryed that keeps parts from wearing as fast as they did before using the CTV.

On my daily (not a mini) I change the oil every 10,000 miles. using your method that would cost me £32.50. The oil I buy is not that expensive and I have more hours in my lift to surf for porn. If I changed the oil every 1000 miles I would be under the car every 3 to 4 weeks, sod that.

Although on the road mini I don't use great oil the racer get CTV.

Yes Valvoline is probably very good for engines, but Millers has produced a very good oil for our engine/gearbox/differential combination which is now very 'old skool'.
Whatever oil you use it must be suitable for this combo plus it has to be a 'quality' oil due to the greater loads on crank bearings & possibly higher temperatures produced by the turbo.
You don't want the turbo oil feed pipes & galleries clogged-up by deposits from cheapo oils.
You gets what you pays for.
You could probably use some cheapo oil as an engine flush rather than using flushing oil (which wrecks the engine) & then put Millers oil in again along with a new filter.
A mod to the oil filter housing should be always carried out, the by-pass valve should be brazed over to prevent unfiltered oil reaching the engine. The by-pass valve is held shut by a spring which isn't very scientific ie the valve could open at random.
Any deposits on the valve could stop it from seating & so be held open permanently so the oil will never be filtered *surprised* *surprised*

I've found that CTV gives lower pressures when it gets really hot - probably not noticed on short thrashes like drag and hillclimb but certainly evident when rallying. VR-1 is supposed to be better for that.
I'm currently using Castrol-R - good for gearbox but a compromise for the engine. But by God does it smell good!!!!

I use Magnatec in my Metro GTi. Not used it in an A series yet but did notice a difference in the K series. Engine seemed to rev more freely.

Im doing a bit of a bump on this.

I normally use Castrol GTX 10w40 mineral in my mini, however trying to get some today ive been told its obsolete and you can only get the magnatec stuff.

What other good alternatives are there that wont cost an arm and a leg, currently using the halfrauds own brand.
