MY MATE HAS/ IS BUILDING A MINI TURBO -IT HAS NOBBIE'S OLD ENGINE IN IT.
WHAT DO YOU GUY'S THINK HIS 0-60 WILL BE. (ESSTIMATE)
IT IS STRIPPED OUT BUT IS FITTED WITH A ZEEMAX BODY KIT.

ANY IDEAS LADS.
I WANT TO KNOW BEFORE I RACE HIM, WHEN HIS IS BUILT OF COURSE.

What gearbox?
What diff ratio?

What was the engine spec?

ill be running it at 12psi, with intercooler. wont be able to tell bhp until its built but i'll wave as i go past u!!! lmao

this is wat it sed wen i bought it:

"mini turbo engine

running when removed, in good condition, has ARP head bolts and studs, drilled head and block for 11 stud, with non verto clutch conversion and new clutch plate with grey diagram, phase 2 turbo piper cam, new oil pump and followers, block has been skimmed, gearbox reconditioned, with cross pin diff. rods crank piston and flywheel all balanced, it has no water pump or alternator blah de blah de blah" (i added the blahs)

0-60 won't be too impressive with the standard transmission... 1st is way too short for the torque of a turbo.
I'd say high sevens.

Stick a SC transmission in there, along with a 3.44 diff, and you'll take almost a second off the 0-60 sprint (probably). The difference feels even more so in driving...

what would be the ultimate box diff ratio etc,etc, for 1/4 mile ????????????

all iam running at the moment is standard ratio helical box with drops and 4 pin diff.
what would you go for if given a blank cheque?

Well I'm not able to launch in 2nd in my mini, but 1st feels too short for the power I have...
So, somewhere between the two! The metro challenge box had a 2.3:1 first, compared to 2.54:1 for a conventional SC gearset.
This would be a good starting point.
Jim is running one of these, and i'm eager to have a run in his mini at avon - it had a very similar engine spec and power delivery to mine... It could be that a 2.3:1 first is still not enough - so maybe a 2.1 first? Who knows?

Then again, If I had a lighter car, and a little more torque, and it was just a drag-racer, i'd use a slightly wider three-speed only!

For anyone who has a standard helical A+ transmission, for a quick time on the strip, you need to be launching in 2nd - with as much boost as you can manage in order to prevent the engine bogging down and to get to the finish as quick as poss. Chances are, you'll send gears out of your transmission or fry your clutch if you do this too many times however...


Only my own personal thoughts, but I'm sure flan the man and Miniwilliams would agree that first gear just isn't long enough sometimes....

Excuse me for asking but how can You tell if it is a bonafied challange box.I bought it as a rover sport box out of a green/white metro used at castle coombe,the bloke was going hillclimbing so put a differant box in

ps - I'd hope for ?400 it is a 'challenge' box! A brand-New gearset is less than that isn't it?

i have a challenge gearset in my kitchen (like you do) I'll count the teeth in the morning for you, count yours and we'll post results

challange box i had one to Jim, sold it in the end not nice with a 2.9.

Was that with the turbo or the 1380? I imagine it must've been a nightmare if with the latter!!!
