A more modern, more appropriately sized turbo is definately a good idea for a turbo a-series but plenty of people still get great results with the T3.

the td04 is something i might try, the dodgy inlet flange means down the back of the block between that and the bulkhead might be tough though Yes i moved to the darkside |

Sean the GT1549 like Im using is a good choice and available brand spanking new Japan Auto trading in SA, the only problem is that the exhaust flange is triangular and not square.

Turns out the pistons are from our local 1275E circa 1980-1983 and ran a compression of 9.4-1.

Sorry to drag a old thread up but how come you say to bin a T3 mike? Just because of the lag it has? its just a very old design, even a modern equivalent of the t3 out performs it massively Yes i moved to the darkside |

On the 1600 its already on boost at 1700rpm. so practically no lag. I've beed offered a T2.5 loacally but its like 600 quid and i would be lucky to get 200 quid for the T3 even though its fully re-conditioned. no worries, im trying to confirm one so i know what to look for Yes i moved to the darkside |

Almost any modern turbocharger will be better in every respect, and usually more compact too. 9.85 @ 145mph
