I have been looking for alternatives to spending £40 on a can of Millers CTV and have found a few products which interest me but have my doubts.

Just wondering if there is anyone on here with either a personal opinion or a scientific opinion as to what would be best option.

Option 1.
Comma Sonic 20W50
http://www.commaoil.com/productsguide/view/6/247/SON5L
Reading around it would seem it has 1500ppm of ZDDP and can be had for less than £15 for 5litres (if you can find it)

Option 2.
Castrol XL 20W50
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/sectiongene...7027099#7094382
Again reading around it has around 1400ppm of ZDDP and can be has for around £20 per gallon (4.5litres)

Option 3.
A reasonable base oil (such as a mineral or semi-synth 15w50 or 20w50) Say between £10-£15.
And add a bottle of this.
http://www.zddplus.com/
Reckons that one bottle increases the ZDDP concentration of a gallon of oil by approx 1400ppm
This product can be had for between £7-£10 a bottle depending how much you buy.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I'd been reading about the Millers Nano Technology oil, which seams pretty good and gets good reviews. but it's gear oil only so no good.

If you want a read, se below

If £40 oil protects a 1k plus engine (or even more in most builds) then thats penuts to spend.

Alright then.

Option 4.
Man up and buy the CTV.

I have CTV lose pressure when hot, one of those things I suppose.

I was buying CTV at around £30 a bottle not that long ago though - has it gone up that much?

Just checked - I can get it for £29.99 from my local friendly stockist.
Obviously there would be a delivery charge to post it out though.

Thats a diesel oil isn't it Robert? I not sure but I think this is the oil my cousin "gets" from work.

Basically an Anti-Wear additive. Without it flattened cam lobes are not uncommon.
