i crashed my new car *angry**angry*
it slid in to a curb near my dads house at around 20-25 mph straight in to the wheel, and its ripped the front subby off its mounts and put everything out of place, the rad is now about 6 inches away from where it should be *angry**angry*
now the grey car has to be put on hold AGAIN so i can try and srape the cash together to fix my car.
i've had a shit last few months, hopefully it'll get better soon *indifferent*

I am soooo pissed, its going to cost too much to fix so now my practicly new car with only 10k on the clock is going to be broken up for spares, unless i can by some miracle work something out.
if not, keep an eye out for a whole cars worth of stuf with only 10k on them.

Why is it going to cost so much to fix? What is the extent of the damage?

As long as the tower mounts have not moved then all the rest is not too bad to sort out?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

What actual bits need replacing. A garage would say it will be costly, yet maybe a weekends work yourself and some by the garage might dramatically reduce the bill!

i think i'll take it somewhere else and get another opinion, i really dont want to lose this car, i was told a recon subframe would be ?200 that is a rip off so i think that garage is not the place to go, the only reason i took it there is because they are a mini specialist (alledgedly) and so i thought they might know what to look for.
i would do it myself but i have just started the practicle part of my nurse training so i'm doing 5 days a week in a nursing home and the other two are pretty much taken up by essay writing.
if i can find some time, maybe doing three 12 hour shifts instead of 5 shorter ones then i could try and do it my self.
when i go and get the car i'll get some piccys, i reckon that as the subframe is rubber mounted the damage can't be as bad as what these guys say it is, as i said i was only going about 20mph.
any way, thanks for the advice guys

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

well thats life, it aint fair most of the time

i remember rolling a mini some 30 years ago on black ice and wrote it off, nearly killed me as it hit a tree flicked over and rolled down an embankment
still picking glass out of my scalp today,
stopped me driving for 8 years.

first job dont panic and examine the car write down whats req and shop around for the bits
you will be supprised

and go for it
wish you the best, i am sure you will find the time to do it. Dont get ripped off.

Look about for a subframe. I sold an injection one with top arms on ebay a few months ago for ?40.

Then all you would need to do would be swap all your other parts over, obviously checking carefully for damage.

Tjhe floor can sometimes get pushed back slightly in an impact where the floor mounts are, have a look, the area should be flat. If its not beat it flat with a hammer and off you go.

Like I said, the main thing is the tower mounts. If they have moved then TBH forget a DIY repair as the car will never drive straight afterwards. If the towers are still straight and not bent then no problem......

Or why not buy a cheap shitter to use until you have more time to sort your mini out? (see for sale section I've got a cheap 205 diesel?)

And 12hrs are not so bad, just coming to the end of 4 12hr nights tonight.

teh car is booked in to a bodyshop next friday its going on a jig so they can panel beat th floor pan, the subframe geometries have been checked and it appears that it isnt bent and the mountings floor pan and wheel absorbed most of the shock, it should be on the road again in a couple of weeks for a lot less than the first garage quoted.

the crash buddy, only just got back to this thread,

well driving a long in a 1964 mini, back in oh! 1975ish
1100 engine 295 head 731cam 3 branch 40 DCOE

for its time if was a flyer*happy* and i used to go cortina bashing that was fun,

well just droped the girl friend off who is still my wife today
and was going down a country lane home around 11pm at 40mph thats all.

slight left hander hit some black ice tried to correct the steering
NO CHANCE *frown*
spun me round 360 deg i hit a banking the mini flicked up in the air hit a massive oak tree and smashed into the roof the n/s front roof corner ended where the gearnob was

then the car rolled down an embankment around some 60 feet
the bucket seat i had in was some cheapo ones these tore from the mountings and the frame ripped into my back tearing my back open

anyway when the mini came to rest i got out of the car and started to run?? just the shock
then i flaked out found out in the hospital i fractured my skull and broken my colar bone and broken my ankle

lucky
it stoped me driving for severall years *oh well*

them days i wore no seatbelt
in my mini today i have a full FIA cage
3" 4 point harness FIA seats and i have beefed ALL the lot up taking no chances this time *wink*

well after all that, i then had another accident where i broke my back in two places which still plagues my to day but this accident was work related some 20 years ago

so iam a little carefull now in life*smiley*

i am still hear and enjoying life
but now its catching up with me with my body as the result of a miss spent youth

oh! then there was severall bike accidents those days i was
totall stone hatchet, but i will not go into them*wink*
