just wondering what makes everyone is using.

I've just broken my Halfords 1/2" one for the second time in the space of a few months (didn't even have an extention tube on it either!). In fairness I've never had any other problems with their stuff and they have replaced it again without any issues.

I'm now coming to the conclusion I may need something a bit more heavy duty.........

teh bar or the end bit? the end bits are consumables really, break snap-on ones all the time, have a cheap n nasty 3/4"predator(brand) bar for heavy stuff with a snap-on step down to 1/2", never let me down yet lol

in saying that i have a short 1/2" clarke pro bar that has never gave out, even with scaffold poles on it.

I bought a snap on one eventually after breaking a few bars (weren't Halfords ones though).

I do have a 3/4inch drive bar for doing up centre locks though

This is one of the few tools where I bit the bullet and went for Snap On not cheap but it's held up well.

My Britool one seems to have stood all the usual abuse over the last 10 years

Snapped a Halford's one recently too, undoing a hub nut. As you say Rob, they replaced it without question.
If it happens again I'll probably look to invest in Snap-on though.

I've got a £10 ebay one, haven't snapped it yet. Handle is a bit bent but it still does it's job

I used to have a 3/4" drive bar many years ago before it was stolen; maybe that would be another good investment

Ive had a Halfords one for easy 10+ years and no problems.

Out of interest....wonder if the ones that are breaking are fairly new, or old ?

Wouldnt be surprised if most new stuff is cheap crap compared to stuff available years ago.

the first one I had was the Professional range and it was only the pin than broke - must have used it for a few years; the second one was the new 'advanced' range or something like that - only got it a couple of months back

I would stress I'm not slating Halfords stuff - its more likley I'm asking too much of it

I've never had any real problems with the Halfrods stuff. In general I think its very good value, and they are open decent hours if you're stuck.

Draper expert and Halfords Profesional, are one in the same, excepting the name

There was a point in time when there was no difference between the two other than the name, but in recent years, I dont think you could say the same, so you could well be right. I haven't bought any wrenching tools from halfords for quite some time, as I pretty much bought one of every spanner, socket and socket accessories from them back in 1996, Thats how good the gear used to be. I have not broken anything except intentionally to make something fit in an awkward place (and that was not my arse before some one says it *tongue*)

Britool 3/4" drive, was my dads, over 30yrs old and weighs some. Other than that its the 1/2" Snap-on (Snap-off), but only on small stuff if I have to use an inch socket or larger I reach for the Britool breaker

I have a big Draper Expert 1/2" drive socket set, it's nothing like John's Halfrauds profesional one.
