When your starting the car normally when its cold or nearly cold you turn the key and it sound like it strugling to turn the engine over then it'll fire up is that a turbo thing cos theres alot of the conpersion or is it something that nobodys come across.

This shouldn't be such a problem on turbo-engines as the compression is VERY low compared to most tuned NA ones.
Check the timing.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

an inspired guess:
its got to be the timing when you think about it if all else checks out ????

you assume the engines been timed correctley!

BUT has it?? *surprised*

the likley cause could be the crank damper rubber ring has slipped in the past,
when the engine is retimed years later, sending the timing far too advanced.

its been well documented, this happens as the rubber deteriates

worth checking this in relation with the flywheel side if you can. say mark it etc when the piston is at TDC

and doing a static check to confirm the above:

just a thought:*wink*

well heres more clue for you!! you start it with a bit of that trouble run it for a few mins then re start it and it won't it sounds like the block is full of fuel and then if you wait a few mins it has a bit of the same problem but it starts!! when i started this i thought about a steal head gasket but didn't bother should i of (is this thing going to run as an everyday driver) anyone else uses theres everyday?

some one feels worried!! what you think wrong though or do all of them do it!! hard to explain but what it sounds like theres loads of fuel in the head and its struging to turn it over thats why i wonder if i should of put a steal head gasket on to give myself more room

What is your ignition timing on tick over?? see where it is and try retarding it a few degrees, if this improves the situation you will be extra safe on boost but lose a bit of power (just make sure if you do try it you do RETARD the timing, distributor anticlockwise). Mine seems to strugle to turn over now and then but untill i get some mapped ignition ill just put up with it.

Ditching the dizzy and using an aftermarket programmable ECU to control the timing, basically the same as a modern car but tailering it for the characteristics of any engine. But its pretty expensive and takes time to set up which i havent got so i will be using some form of boost retard device on my current ignition system. A very good alternative i think.

seen one on the avonbar website is that the right thing as your are talking aout

This is 'Micro Dynamics' Turbo ignition management system. It can be used with a number of 'older' style turbo setups. Gets Really good results on an 'A' series turbo.

is it worth spending the money on ?

That's just a boost retard unit, retards the ignition timing under boost. You still keep your distributor, the unit works in conjunction with it.
A proper fully mappable system is a completely different thing to this.
