I oganised my engine from a pile to this last night. Who knows if they'll ever emerge?

Actually the top two are gearboxes, the rest are 998s other than one 1275.

To the left of the shot there is a final 998 still on a box.

the most I paid for any is £20 and most were free. I can't see even 998s remaining that cheap.

That's quite cute though, although when I read the title I assumed they would be in an actual bed or wrapped in a duvet

What's interesting when you have a collection is that you notice that not all 998 A+ engine are the same - not by a long way.

I have identified at least 3 different 998 castings. One of which is linered.

I basically bought the shed that the engines are in just to store stuff I don't need right now. Bits I may have need for are still in the garage.

I'm not always this anal, but as I know these engines will be here for a while I thought that neetness was the way to go.

All the stuff in the van is off down John's container. The one and a bit boxes at the side of the van are it's new s/c box and the new casing. The block burried at the side is for mock up in my car. The box under the bench is my JKD SCCR box for rebuild and eventually sticking in the mini. The box in front of the mini and the one shoved in the engine bay (once it's back together) are for sale. There's loads more stuff throwing round the garage and two filling cabinets full of 'good bits'. I also have a shed full of parts and general clutter. The cellar is full of panels. I keep all the good stuff in the sauna

lol you can never have too many, we all should get at least one spare engine, like you said they won't be that cheap forever. :)

My theory was that 10 would be enough for a lifetime. I now have 9 spare and 3 running in cars.

I was trying to think what I have. So far I can think of

2 STD 1275 blocks
1 73mm decked block
1 complete 1275 metro engine
1 complete 1310 tubby engine
1 modded crank
1 std tubby crank
1 crank ready for its last grind
a few heads
numerous gearboxes
loads of rods

I really ought to sort them all out.

we mine are actually in my bedroom
i have 6 or 7 turbos, 3 or 4 cams, a fully built box, block, 4 sets of rods 2 sets of pistons, 5 heads, my dash with another engine in the shed, and a 998 less short block that you had down at my dads

I'd be interested to know how many between everyone we have. I have 7 engines in various states of completeless. I'll stop buying them when they don't come up cheap, or I reach 10.

My mate is just as bad, We killed another metro last weekend with a mere 56,000 on the clock, And he has another 3 engines.

I think as long as we can store them, me and John will keep buying engines in any usable state. In a few years their value will keep on going up and up and up. Then we will sell it all and retire as millionaires.

Yes, but I happily buy all the crap. stuff that needs a bore or is incomplete. makes for much cheapness.
