everything is sorted now just got to connect up my vr sensor and megajolt will hopefully be up and running,

anyway onto my problem that i need sorted i know that i need to change my tensioner to the one that is used on fords with the lips each side, but i cannot find one anywhere in my local scrap yard and motorfactors need a part number, so if anyone knows where to get one or information on it i will be grateful,

also when my engine is running there is no supercharger noise! the belt is on very tight (with tensioner)

Is this when it's idling or when you increase the revs? When the engine is ticking over, although the supercharger is spinning up, it doesn't make alot of noise in comparison to when you rev it, so if you have a large bore exhaust it could be why you can't hear it.

that tensioner is well expensive! i had no idea it would that price! any others? i am looking myself btw

minx: well even when rev'd there is no whine noise, but you know the servo take of underneath when i take my finger off of it whilst the engine is running the charger makes the whiney noise well more of a sucking noise anyway on to my point how have you blocked yours?

You will be hard pushed to find a new tensioner like that for less.`

I used a Cosworth cambelt tensioner, works a treat.

As Sprocket says, that is a very good price for a new "genuine" Cossie item - I paid more than that for my last one.

But are you sure it's what you want ???

There are many other Ford ones (although not all are lipped both sides) but this is specifically designed to be bolted solid to the block (the adjustment is by the bearing being eccentric), it is not meant for a swinging arm, and it is for a specific width belt.

If it is what you need, don't be tempted to use a secondhand one, the bearings inside them wear fairly quickly.

EDIT - just seen the picture posted above..... as I said the Cossie tensioner is for a specific belt width..... and it's certainly not for that one :)

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Look at VW Golf ones. I bought one for the 16 valver but it was too narrow for a 24mm belt. Might be a bit better. Similar design.

how would i check to make sure my set up is straight?

as the tensioner i have is dead in the centre of the belt and is exactly the same width i am starting to believe that something is not straight

because am i right in thinking both pulleys and the tensioner all have to be dead square?

As far as I am aware your meant to have that blocked off.

Rod S, This pulley arrangement with this tensioner is working well, you just have to make sure all the pulleys are lined up correctly

That belt looks a little furry and seen better days.

I dont see why you need a tensioner with belt guides on it. I would personally be more worried about the condition of that belt!

yeah very true but that is because it jumped off and hit my fan belt

tbh it will be swapped as soon as i can get it to stop jumping off!

Not enough tension. Without enough tension, the back lash will allow the belt to jump off.

Make the tensioner mounting bracket longer giving the tensioner more leverage on the belt making it easier to get tension into the belt. I would look very carefully at the tensioner mounting bracket, as that single bolt that fixes it to the supercharger is far from ideal. I can see another bolt hole on the front face of the charger and I can envisage a bracket made from 50x50x4mm steel angle that bolts to the original bolt hole you are using, as well as the one on that front face of the super charger.

I'd have to agree with Sprocket, your mounting bracket is too short, hence not enough leverage...

what length is your bracket graham and today i went out and got another belt on close examination lol the jonspeed bottom pulley is a 5 row and the charger is five so i bought a 5 belt and put my tensioner on to test and it was jumping left and right on my charger pulley so i slackeed the tensioner of slightly and it has stopped but now i think it is slippin how would i know?

Blister, hole center's are 55mm apart, but you could go longer, giving you more leverage. I've used a John Cooper Works supercharger belt.

grahamxx if your the guy that is on tmf with the blue engine i was just having a flip through,

do you possibly have the map for your megajolt? as i have a 1275 supercharged map but would like to compare

what bottom pulley are you using
i am just going to measure my tensioner bracket

oh and were did you get your tensioner, also what size is the internal hole,

oh and i just measured my bracket from hole to hole and it is 55mm

Blister, every engine is different, so the map I've made with the tuner won't necessarily be right for your car, so this could be very dangerous!!

I made my own tensioner, the only part of this conversion I bought was the bottom pulley, I made everything else myself. Bottom pulley I bought from Jonspeed and adapted to use the mega jolt trigger wheel

ok about the map, with my bottom pulley trigger wheel setup i have bought the canem 36 trigger wheel with the pilot hole because i thought about trying to thread the crank bolt where there already is a hole and torque up the bottom pulley then bolt on the trigger wheel but that is for another thread..... anyway after an attempt today of trying to start the engine the belt is now jumping side to side again, so i am going to change my second hand tensioner to a brand new one

also i have noticed that you can wiggle the tensioner on its bracket even when tightened right up

If a multi groove belt is jumping tracks, ther is either something very wrong with the pullies, the alignment, the tension, or, there is something embeded in the belt such as a stone. I'm not so sure that last one would be much of a problem unless it was like A pebble, I changed my alternator belt (multi groove) for just that reason, there was a small stone embeded in the grooves. Never had a multi V belt jump around, I'v had mine up to 8krpm.

well will double check to make sure that there is nothing in any of the groves,

my tensioner was actually found in a skip.... lol when the tensioner isnt on te belt doesnt jump around (the belt does still have grip without the tensioner just not as much,)

i got a straight edge and put it on the face of the bottom pulley and it does lign up with the top pulley perfectly
