hey all.

taking on the mamoth task of converting my 998 auto mini city e to a turbo beasty. already bought the mg turbo and even had time to blow it up. the diff lasted all of a week with my antics. but had the engine out a week ago and it is now fully stripped and is shortly to be rebuilt.........with a four pin minispares diff. just wanting some hints and tips to aid the smooth running of the conversion. hopfully my friends jim and dan will be on hand!!

also my mini was on the documentary inside out on BBC. my cousin had the joy of lighting his cig from the 998's flaming exhaust!! it will be missed but soon to be replaced with turbo power!!

thanks!!!!!!!

SELL MY MINI?!, Id rather dip my balls in battery acid.

for a start you will need a manual gaerbox front subframe and also a pedal box with a clutch pedal.

more or less everything else you need to know is buried in this site so start reading..........

i use blu tack mate!

one of the things i always buy when blu tacking a metro motor in is a single point sandwich plate, saves effort drilling the head ....... the lazy way out

Does the front subframe need changing? I had an ex auto mini once and the engine mounts kept breaking,so it had 1/4" plates either side as I think the subframe must be wider

yeah the subframe is wider. you can put a spacer in or fit a manual subby. id always go with manual subby. there's always loads about.

because the metro starters solenoid sits lower down, it actually fouls the front panel, the mini one sits higher up

well u learn something new everyday ... so the mini starter with the solenoid on it is different to the metro one??

I got round it by slightly bending a part of the front panel. Only about 3mm of it worked, doenst look bad and you cant see it anyway behind the grill.

Don't forget to weld in the bracket for an extra engine steady. And make sure you put a genourous angle on the crossmember to give plenty of room for the actuator.

Plenty of pics on this site showing you how.

I used an Avonbar box and it came with pretty good instructions regarding where to fit it. As usual with Avonbar stuff a bit pricey but good quality and instructions!
