Been told it helps reduce the chance of detonation? True/false? And how many of you lot use it?

Cheers

True. We always use it in the van.

It also helps if you set the motor up for it too.

It was worth about 30-50bhp on my twin turbo supra but imo thata an ecception (Sp?) due to the way the ignition timing is calculated on the oem ecu
tesco and esso are brill
avoid morrisons at all costs...

The better fuel gives better fuel consumpion too however with a carb that is negligeble
That new super saver stuff is not very well liked by the volvo either i dont use it anymore and stick to tesco or esso stuff

Disclaimour.. That is my opinion based on thousuands of pounds worth of fuel being used over 2 years

do not use morrisons fuel it is terrible!! we have cars come in the garage running badly and when you look at this fuel it is very merky and dirty!! and all these customers cars have one thing in common, they all have morrisons fuel in it! and it all needs to be drained! so i would stear well clear of it and they have been in the paper for it!

It is higher octane so has a higher point of detonation, therefore the ignition timing can be advanced further to increase power
If just put into a vehicle with no adjustment there will be no difference performance wise
Most modern cars however use the knock sensor to advance and retard ignition timing constantly this means when put into a modern car that does this it will create more power
it will only be more resistant to knocking on the same ignition map as used normal unleaded

one point I'd make is that we had problems with high octane fuel going off very quickly so I'd not put much in the tank if your not using the car much. Keith T filled up his car on the Thursday night before MITP a couple of years ago and the car ran well Thursday and Friday but shit all weekend at the show. After a fair bit of buggering about, he drained and refueled when he got home and the problems disappeared - think it was BP fuel

I always used to use super in my old Mini although I found she ran differently on different makes of super. Shell V-Power being the best and Esso Super being the worst. Occasionally I'll fill the ZR with V-Power and she runs lovely, better throttle response and I made it to London and back (250 miles) on just over half a tank which is good for her.

Once Vader is done I'll be running him on V-Power.

Talking of morrisons fuel. A mate of mine a navaro (i thinks) petrol fake 4x4/school run pile of shit. The car started developing a misfire one and it would knock into limp mode and loose power, he would have to stop turn it off for a while and it would be ok. After several trips to his local garage they basically told him they couldnt find anything wrong, a few parts were swapped, injectors ect. After some head scratching the garage finally asked him what fuel he used. He told them morrisons as he was a member. They asked to try shell or bp. They car hasnt gone wrong once since? Coinsidence perhaps?

1/4 Mile 14.3secs 96Mph Terminal 10psi of boost.

Not surprising really. I remember a while ago when they had an 'accident' and loads of water got mixed into their fuel and alot of cars broke down as a result.

V-Power is £1.26 at the Shell near me but if I go a little further onto the bypass into Derby it's £1.21.
