Following the fitment of megajolt, starting it on the edis only for the first time the engine made a rather horrifying metal clanging noise. Now I did test for TDC yesterday and left the plug out over night, but I've put a magnet in through the opening thinking a nut or something may have dropped in. But I hanky got anything out. The only other thing can think of is the timing chain? I fitted a sensor bracket from trigger wheels.

I did think that, but it sounds like it's coming from inside the engine... I've not been brave enough to leave it run long enough to look at that!

Just been and checked - as I've been so bloody stupid. It was still there, some was on my side, but there is damage to the drive at the cam end but the cam is fine and the lobes either side look fine too. But I'll have to do an oil and filter change now as there is going to be metal bits in there now. Bugger. One little thing so many consequences... On 7th Nov, 2011 apbellamy said:

"fitting Megajolt? REMOVE THE DISTRIBUTOR DRIVE!!!" really needs to be put up in big red lights across the main page as its happend to so many on here its not funny any more. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Not driven it Richard, I'm hoping (it's a big hope!) that the metal would have found it's way to the oil at the sump. I'm going to change the oil today and insert a magnet into the plug hole in the hope I can remove most of the bits. That or I pop out the engine, turn it upside down and shake the bits out!!!

No enough to make it complete! I recon some of the bits are sat on the gears ready and waiting to make more noise when I drive it.

I'd be worried about smacking the crank or a rod, providing a stress raiser for a fatigue crack.

as soon as you start the engine the gears will spin the way that will spit any bits upwards rather than draging the bits in,

It is a standard box, it's also unknown to me, i got it with a car I bought about 5 years ago and this Is the first time I've used it. So I'm going to say fuck it and use it! If it goes bang then I'll rebuild it and the engine while I'm at it. So it's win win in my eyes, it either works or I get a new engine!!! On 7th Nov, 2011 apbellamy said:
