Evening all.

I'm getting so bloody annoyed now.

Basically I want some JE forged pistons off mini speed, the bloke who's helping me do the conversion is going on about me getting forged rods. 740 is the cheapest I can find and I'd rather NOT pay that.

When searching I rear I can get my current A+ rods bushed what is this and how do I go about getting it done?

Once It is done will I have to do anything else to the rods of pistons to make them fit and run with about 12 psi of boost.

Thanks for any help and advice.

i'd say forged rods and pistons is waaaay overkill for 12psi.

I agree with Nick, Waste of money, stick with cast Omega and normal rods + ARP bolts, should be good for upto 18-20psi.

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

Waaaay overkill,

std pistons and rods will be more than enough,

I'd stay away from the JE's, they are a good piston but with the short height I think they are going to be a pain to get the block decked enough.

cast omegas?

Matt woods on here has seen just over 300 horsies with cast omegas, and does a decent amout of mileage too,

you'll have no worries at 12 psi

Cast omegas are perfect for what you need. They have been proven in many top power A series turbo engines. Take our advise, I've run 170bhp on them and my new engine should produce around 200 mark

Apart from getting the crank hardened, I'd just use standard rods and cast omegas. Unless you intend to rev it very hard.

Standard rods, you could have them ligthen, balanced and shot peened if you wish. Also Arp rod bolts. Med will supply everything ready to fit.

You'll need an RTS clutch not just any Verto clutch.

That AP verto wont cut it unless you are happy with less than 150 hp

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I find it amusing how 'double air remelt' terminology is only ever used for describing the steel used in after market high performance con rods, and with no real explanation to what it really means, other than sounding like something only high performance con rods should have. You would at least have thought that the process would be used in other industries elsewhere?

most the rods being sold are just brought from other companys usually abroad on the cheap and then there names etched onto them, i wouldnt be supprised if a few about are actually entirely the same. which of the companys that do sell them do make there own, does anyone know?

John has maintained his rods are manufactured in the Uk aftern numerous similar discussions, Otherwise unless they are the very high end expensive rods then probably assume china!
