Fit proper A bearings, that's what you do.

I always get mixed up.

Do the later ones have the central tang and the earlier A ones have the offset tang?

Also are the A ones grooved at the bottoms?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

A ones are grooved at the bottom as all other proper engines. These sport the offset tang on all six bearings.

Just making sure but you aren't mixing and matching caps with blocks are you? You should always keep the caps with the block they were made for.

My early A plus block also uses the "so called" A bearings with the oil groove and offset tang.

I think it's a misconception that all A plus blocks use the un-grooved bearing, my caps are all original to the block and take the earlier shells.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

After my main bearing failure in 2009, I opened out the center bearing oil gallery and fitted the groove/ groove bearings, since the crank fitted is not cross drilled, and will not be rev'ed much beyond 7500rpm.

The loading does worry me though, but fuck it, lets see what happens *happy*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I think with the fact that I killed the crank, I won't forget that one again in a hurry.

I am still not convinced that it was the first and final answer to the problem.
