Correct me if im wrong but isnt a hks dumpvalve about £200 and there silver blue or red... A few people on the e90post use these on the 335tt, personally forge bailey ect are alot cheaper and still work well. Drives

I was always under the impression they were either polished or the black version. I remember seeing the black edition on the US HKS site but theyve since discontinued it i think as the ssqv3 has superceded the ssqv2's

Not being sarcastic, what is so good about these valves, what does it do that a Bosch plastic recirc one for £5 will not do? Genuine question?

Never witnessed one fitted but they seem good from word of mouth and browsing t'internet. I dont think id pay the full whack for one though, Nick would be the person to ask seeing as hes got one and can compare it to other stuff. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

I think that's the main selling point. It's also the reason I refer to them as chavvy.

I have one on my Mini, the main advantage is they remain closed at idle so don't suck in unfiltered air (a big advantage IMO). They have a sequential operation so only partly "dump" under part load/low boost and don't leak under high boost. They are woefully overpriced but every so often they come up on ebay at £120-£150 new. You can "tune" the noise with inserts (a bit silly I know) but also you can convert to recirculation which again is handy. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

that valve is non-gen. the advantage tom is the noise, and they work on most(all?) air flow meter based cars without making them cut out. tbo though the only true "advantage" is the noise, sounds like someone sneesing while getting there chest jumped on for extra volume. i have one on my mini but removed the wee bit that makes the noise, so now its just like any other dump valve. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

My £20 forge diaphragm type valve jas a fitter on it, so no problems with it being open on idle.

How can you tell the difference between the gen and non gen items? i know for definate that HKS produced the black edition solely for the american market and it was limited edition, Cant see any differences to what i said other than its coming from china, which is the only iffy bit On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

The pics in that ebay auction are of a genuine HKS black edition however whether that is what your getting is another question, it is selling at non-gen prices as it's coming from China. Edited by Jay#2 on 4th Apr, 2011. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:
