changed the head gasget and all seems fine, except it still wont go over 90mph!!! sounds like its miss firing and wont go any faster. what could be causing this?? could it be timing not advance enough???

cheers

sounds like an igntion fault, could be one of many things.

Coil, points/ingnition module, dizzy cap, leads, plugs, condenser. Generally if it only happens at high revs it is the condenser if your still using points set up.

Possible a problem with mixture, hard to tell without more info and being there to have a proper listen. Could be leaning out top end stopping it.

Best way is to get it on the rollers if you can't find anything wrong with ingnition side of things

Rolling Road session needed I think.

If it won't go over 90mph, stop trying until you get it properly sorted or else you risk damaging the engine.

yeah i just thought id take it up to 90 to see if it still does it

the dizzy is the electro type

it had a new dizzy cap, coil is a standard one. it went past 90 fine before the engine came out,and the dizzy came out too, marked it up but wiped it off when cleaning the engine, doh!

stuart at vmax set the timing up with the gun, dunno if it needs tweaking though?

No that wont fuck it up, rolling road will tell you if its faulty though. Trust me its well worth the money if you get your car totally checked everywhere, it unlocked 111bhp for me on a standard turbo engine! The guys on here are never wrong.

If you want a new module and your gonna get it from halfords il get u it.

not sure, from what i've been told about the modules they just break down, mainly when under load but seem fine at idle/

if it only does it at 90 mph, indicates its more of a mixture problem. The increasing load with each gear will be demanding more and more fuel/air.

But the misfire would stil indicate more of a igniton problem.

Like the guys say your probably best to get the module and go for a session on the RR if the module don't sove your problem.

?30 for the module is far cheaper than the rolling road so look at it like that it don't seem so bad *smiley*

oh just a check that can cause problems check the vacuum advance/retard pipe is connected to the carb/dizzy. If it is check there are no holes in it, can cause prolems with timing and the fuelling

right,im thinking its the fuel pump,or regulator.

i have a spi fuel tank, i can here it pumping but its not a constant noise, its lumpy like on off kinda noise, does this indicate its shagged??

or is it the regulator??

stuart gurr thinks its fueling.

also is an mpi fuel pump the same as spi,can i put that in instead of an mpi???

spi and mpi's come as a different part number but not sure whether the interfaces are the same.
my spi tank was very quiet and a constant buzz rather than lumpy.
i had problems with a metty turbo pump that never seemed to sound right. mainly because i didnt mount it low enough but i didnt know any better then.

regulators can go dodgy too and cause all sorts of problems. just check the fuel pressure while your driving.
stick the gunson lo-gauge under your wiper *wink* works for me.

also takes a few goes to get it started sometimes, even when warm, then slowly starts, and you gota rev it up so it ticks over nicely

stuart said check for bubbles, does he mean the filter? and if so,what does this indicate?

that the pump is picking up air and not just fuel. thats why the pumps tend to sound funny.

thats typical for a turbo. heat soak in the carb causes hot start problems
