Sorry guys, another post for non-mini.

After nearly 5 years with the Audi, I've had to admit it is costing me more now to keep running than a newer car would cost to buy. I've just added up the total expenditure excluding fuel and insurance for the last year and it came to over £4k! now that would have finished off the turbo!

I do like the Audis but want to consider all options. I've got some ideas in my head of what I would like but the budget will more than likely provide limitations.

The criteria is;

Estate if possible
4WD - i think i'd miss the quattro
leather interior (the one in the audi has worn very well)
reasonable MPG; i'm getting circa 30-32 at the moment and don't want any worse
capable of high miles long term; I'm likely to keep it the same length of time I've had the current car and have covered personally just under 130k. currently its at 182k
budget will depend on age and mileage of the car but I'd say atround £10-12k

Anyone got any sugestions or recommendations??

cheers

Rob

Whats your current Audi? A4 or A6?

Reviews especially on the diesels are favourible.

2.0 boxer diesel with 150nana's and upto 49mpg is achievable.

What about a skoda superb estate. Same VAG build quality, but much less £££ if you can live with the badge.

Driven loads of octavias and they where all good.

I'm tempted with the VAG group again; any superb estate in the trim i'm interested in will be out the price range;

passat is an option but 4-motion is rare

John, I've considered both the 3 and 5 series but its got to be 4wd really. with the weather we get up north, they are useless when needed.

Wolfie, my business partner has got the CRV; its a good car and very capable but agreed the interior is a bit un-inspiring. good on fuel though

No idea how much they cost, no idea what mpg they give, no idea how sensible this idea is.

But whatever you do, at least have a test drive in a Touraeg V10 TDI. I've been in a couple now, what an awesome machine.

I looked at these a year or so ago; agreed awsome machine but the mpg is in the low 20's; prices aren't bad though

well i've not had much time to get out and about looking for the ideal car recently with work and the folks moving back up to Scotland.

I've been backed into a corner and made a bit of a change in direction (not sure if you can do that from a corner!)

We were going to have to change the wifes car later in the year anyway so I've bought something that will do her in the long term and I'll runabout in it for a few months while we get the TT tidied up for a private sell. That will buy me a bit of time to find my ideal car which I think is going to be another Audi Quattro model.

So for now I'll be running about in an 2008 Golf GTsport TDi. Its got the 140bhp output so isn't quite what i'm used to dut I think I could live with the better economy for a while!

The real downside is i'm unlikely to have a towcar to get the mini down to Avon or MITP this year unless I can persuade the new owner of the Audi to lend it to me for the weekend!

So if anyone knows of a good A4 TDI Quattro s-line avant up to £12.5k going, let me know.......
