I was pissing about the car today and I seen that there was some smoke coming from the manifold on start up and this is what I seen.

The gasket is from mini spares and I thought it was a good one so what do you think?

Thanks simon.

I was warned off using this type of manifold gasket, cheap but not cheerful. Now I see why.I would stick with the original type, often on ebay, about £12 plus p&p,but worth it.

I use one of these suckers but then I don't run a turbo

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Composite gaskets will de-laminate like that where they are not trapped/compressed properly.

What would worry me more is that array of bolts/nuts/washers etc, all different, most look too small, and none are actually parallel to the joint face.

IMO I would say the problem is the bolting, not the gasket.

I was thinking that is where the problem is Rod I cannot get the full washers in there as it’s too tight! I have had to grind a spanner down a bit to get in at 2 of the nuts.

hi madmk1 the inlet flange on the inlet looks thinner than the exhaust flange this will result in sealing problems, good luck hope u can sort it

You want the paper type with metal rings on the exhaust ports. I used to get no end of hassle with the other style of gasket!

Shropshire.

I used the same as Ron, but as also said above the flange on the inlet and outlet look different thicknesses, and could be a contributing factor..

Right then, I just have been out and got it off and its bad, as for the inlet flanges, they have been welded to build them up the same as the outlets so they should been fine.

I think I will need to find some Locating Rings for the inlet flanges. Also see if I can fit the big washers on there but I will have to dent the manifold to get the nuts in.:(

That one I use is steel backed and has the crush rings for the exhaust ports. I love them.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I've used the layered metal type, as in your picture, for years & never had an issue at all.

A bit of a hi-jack, but anyone know how big is the diameter of the holes for the inlet ports on both MS turbo and injection gaskets are?
