Is it bad to remove too much unsprung weight from the Mini? I as just wondering as im currently building up my list of parts for my build but was wondering if its a bad thing to change almost everything for alloy, titanium, fibreglass making the car too light? Does that make sense?

Thanks

Liam

i guess you could loose traction and steering if you went mad and had lots of power. need to find nice equal level

funny i was just doing a search for this yesterday.

one of the posts reckons you can lose 40 odd KG from the running gear!!

i would of thought that as long as the geometry is all set up well it should be ok?? could be wrong though.

My build thread..

No such thing as too light, the DON is 440kg or thereabouts, almost everything unspring is alloy/ti.

Doesn't it need to be that light due to the driver being heavy Tom? *smiley*

Well, the weight of the car could increase or decrease traction, but as Tom says the unsprung weight cannot be too light. Why do you think this?

I was just thinking that if you make the car too light it may handle like a bag of crap? But them i presume it would then equate down to ride height and suspension set up?

No, the lighter the car the better it will handle as you have less weight transfer.

Of course you need to compensate by choosing the right tyres, that is a softer compound.

The reduction in unsprung weight giveds the suspension les monmentum, which again will help handling as the wheel will be easier to control and stay on the ground longer.

leeds/wakefield.

you dont want to reduce unsprung weight , you need to add weight to the suspension as more weight will keep them pressed down in contact with the road sureley
