Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Im currently selling the vaux mini. It's it a 1.4 8v engine in it and the lad who wants to buy it and has fell in love with it has been quoted £9k to insure it.

Any 18year olds found good insurers?

I use Lancaster but they won't do under 21's.

He's not expecting it for peanuts but that's crazy!

im insured with adrian flux on the turbo, but insurance has gone up this year, still a lot less than £9K though.

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

Nine. Thousand. Pounds.

What?! *surprised*

I used Adrian Flux when I was 21 for the "standard" Metro Turbo in my Mini; £600 fully comp. Alas that was 14 years ago...

Is it really that much to insure a car these days at 18?! There is no way I could have afforded to have a car!

Afraid so Iain, its madness. Average price for an 18yo male is £2500, and thats for a shopping cart not anything fruity.

I'll tell them to try flux then I guess. I remember paying £600 for my £40 escort when I was 17 and that seemed a fortune!!

insurance now is a joke, average price for the usual 18yo car, corsas fiesta's saxo's, is £2000+, my mate got quoted £4800 for a 1.4 zetec fiesta, he wasnt gonna pay that so now has a mini and insuranced with footman james.

His problem will be that insurance companies won't see a vauxhall engine transplant as a small modification, no matter how straight forward it might be.

That's because the list box for entering mods has about 6 fields, then it's full *Clapping*

I know a little about the software they use for giving quotes :)

Wording stuff better can help, for exaple a rollage is a "safety" cage etc. If u have a fire extinguisher tell them, itl probably help.

Im 21 now and it costs me £800 fully comp for my 2175 cooper. Im with Lancaster at the moment.

Footman James will insure most mods without any increase in excess so long as they're not performance. From what i can remember a friend told me they'll also insure performance mods but not once you've exceeded a 10% increase in bhp from standard.

In other words, if you're running a 30hp 998 and you put an LCB, K&N and correct sized exhaust on, gaining 3hp, thats your fill.

That said, i'd try Peter James, Adrian Flux (and all their other sister companies) like Flux Direct etc, Lancaster, HIC. Direct Line are worth a punt too

Good thing about turbo motors is you could do a dyno run with say 1psi boost get tiny power, get a prinout for the insurance and then turn it up a bit and do the real one *wink*

I insure mine for £220 fully comp with breakdown cover.

When I was 17, my 1.4 Renault 5 cost £450 to insure on my parents policy. Maybe this is an option for him?

In the 13's at last!.. Just
