This might be a touchy subject, but it looks like all of england is on fire and every youth is smashing the place up. Thats what ive got from the news over here.

In London yeah, although it's apparently now in Bristol, Birmingham and Liverpool from what I have heard.

It started off as a peaceful protest because the police shot someone who was "key in the community" as he shot one of the armed unit. To be honest, now it is just youngsters smashing and burning things because they can, the police cannot do anything but watch from behind their shields, and people are just being told to stay away from the streets.

Must add that all of the above may be incorrect but it is from what I heard and read from various sources etc etc.

Also, whoever decided that police have sod all power - ...

*A friend of mine is in hospital in London (entirely unrelated reason!) and last night all visitors were asked to leave as they feared the rioters would come after drugs! I'm hoping that from this rioting, someone reviews the police laws, if they had an inch of power then this could have been stopped at the beginning, but with society creating an uproar when an officer defends themselves against the public (and often forcing the officer to lose their job), I can't see this stopping really...just my opinion though*

*I hear a Halfords got broken into as well, so at least Ebay will benefit from some cheap paint/tools!*

If i were a cop, id clatter every plank with a riot shield, and if they dont get the hint, tear gas the lot and round em up. Failing that, pull out a 12-gauge

Sounds like a few people shoudlve been left out in the cold when they were little. The papers go on over here like the cops are the bad guys and they shot him randomly. Bloody media, makes me want to go out and cause a riot because of them.

The police shot someone they were trying to arrest with regards to gun crime, one of the police radios ended up with a bullet in so its a fair assumption he fired on the police however the investigation into his death had only just started.

The original riot was because of this lad who had been shot however this has escallated to the riots around the country these have been reported as youths who are fed up with unemployment and discrimination, however i see loads of asian black and white youths who work very hard so as usual just an excuse for thuggery.

This poorly run government over the last two years has cut police numbers and plans are in place to cut a further 34000 posts over the next four years, the police in current numbers cannot cope and poor central government managment has not helped, our home secretary Teresa may has today said that the police will use more robust measures but personally i think the army should stamp there mark on the rioters.

Problem is the police have there hands tied because the rioters have so called human rights, in my book if you riot and put peoples lives at risk you loose your human rights.

This country needs someone in charge with a backbone someone that will get on and do the job however that job needs to be done

Sounds like a lot of a shit fight then. Lets hope the politicians learn and actually stand up for something. Guess the same thing will happen over here in a few years, if people can be arsed to do anything lol.

There was a police helicopter over the top of the centre of bristol most of last night. Havn't heard much else though.

the bullet that was in the police radio came from another police armed unit, thats why it has all kicked off, they shot each other and blamed someone else for it.

I,m afraid that this is a symptom of several failed governments, but, going further back, a failure of our immigration policy and a radical failure of our education system.

We seem to have lost our old British sense of morality and everyone feels that the world owes them a living - and if they cant get it one way then this is another.

The police are working with their hands tied because of media coverage and a fear of being accused of over reaction, brutality, and race discrimination.If they could apply "robust" methods then Im sure these riots would fade away pretty quickly.

Having said that it wont do anything for the root cause, which was not the shooting incident -that was just a peg to hang it all on.

i agree with wolfie, something should be in the law stating the police have more power to take lives (if needed) if people are causing massive disruption and scaring people etc.... the police should have guns on them or at least the army ( as stated before) should move in and do something about it.

they should have something like a pepper spray fire engine to disable the thugs/rioters. if the stupid public are in the scene they deserve it too. why dont they break out the fire engines on the roiters haha, they have tanks with water guns :)
