The kit you speak of is a Honda 1100rr gear set into a mini box. Sounds like an economical idea to be honest. On 19th Feb, 2011 Miniwilliams said:

Looks interesting. Wonder how it would stand up to turbo torque?

I wouldn't see much point personally in paying as much as im guessing that is going to cost for 2 gears i probably wouldn't use. But the idea and work behind it look very smart. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

It's not just the torque i could see being a problem. a mini weighs a lot more than a bike so the box is working much harder under.more strain to get moving On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

the bloke is running 190atw turbo BMW K head mini & has had no problems at all and he is using the weaker gear set that the original bloke said don't use as they are weak... beats every car on the historic race track as well, this one in the photo is a dog box though..

So the gearset is out of a cbr1100? They turbo them I believe. Not sure if they have to upgrade the boxes though. |

the one for road is going to be a cbr1100 yes. he has used a 600 cbr gear set. They are prone to smashing the dogs.

clever stuff. If it can be done for similar money to a minispares kit then it's got to be worth a try.

Not sure how a transmission originally designed for a 250kg motorcycle with 78lbft of torque will handle 550kg mini with 180lbft of torque, but then that might be me being a little skeptical, as ever On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

The bike engine z cars stuff seem to cope with the trans? Seems a good idea to me. I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

But thats a bike engine with ~80lbft of torque, still a heavy car and I have seen a few broken transmissions of bike engined cars, not just minis. Like I said, I might just be being skeptical On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

I know what you are saying, but we know that lots of the original mini gearbox, that was designed for 38bhp holds together pretty well. For a while anyway...... http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

Very nice, be interested to find out how much the conversion kit would cost, plus the whole chunk of machining. On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:
