avonbar highly recommend 20w/50 valvoline, as the gearbox shares the same oil its probably quite important!

I really don't think it matters much at all. Just change it every now and then and you'll be allright.

I used to use Valvoline 20/50, but the damage I'd seen on my laygear appeared to suggest there was insufficient lubrication (which is impossible given it's location!)

So, no more valvoline for me - except in the dashpot!

Switched to Torco for a short time, then went to good ol' duchams 20/50. Not had the gearbox apart since to review any damage, so can't comment further!

This is what the millers website say

Description
Mineral based classic engine oil for transverse engines. Specially developed additive system incorporated in mineral base fluids.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Application
Use as received as an engine/gearbox oil in vehicles which have a combined engine/gearbox sump such as the 'Mini'. Formulated for the discerning owner who demands the best protection for his engine.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

User Benefits
* Classic Trans 'M' has been developed to provide the ultimate lubricant for vehicles which employ a common oil for both engine and gearbox lubrication.
* The combined engine/transmission layout places extra demands upon the oil in terms of extreme pressure requirements for gear protection along with ball, roller and needle bearings incorporated into the gearbox.
* Classic Trans 'M' has been developed using 'real world' experience of running transverse 'box in sump' vehicles and provides E.P. protection levels very much higher than conventional engine oils.
* This oil has been show to prevent centre main bearing distress in tuned vehicles reducing expensive re-build costs.
* Uses latest lubricant technology to engineer a premium mineral multigrade for high performance 'Mini' derivatives.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Performance Profile
Ideally suitable for Mini Cooper or Cooper S models or other modified fast road derivatives.
Suitable for the discerning Mini owner who wants the best possible oil available.

My only complaint is that when the oil is cold the 'box feels very stiff...

Not yet taken anything apart thats been ruuning on it for any length of time, but its seems to be good at dealing with the HOT turbo, in terms of the oil not oxidising.

it cost 7 £ /liter
any good moto shop should have it (be careful with othermakes, I burned to clutch on my zzr using castrol rs, also oil temp is best with the 300v)their is a lot of gades (5/30 ; 5/40; 15/50; 15/60 I prefer the 5:40 for every days towning and 15/50 for funny/furry days, oi is changed after each race meeting
I think this oil is the reason why my last gearbox was safe after all the punition it gets.
