In My Opinion, don't waste your money with those, and pay the extra for the Timken. Much better if you can also find new old stock.

I'll never use anything other than the Timken veriety for wheel bearings, since I had a front wheel bearing failure within 1000 miles of fitting all new bearings in both front hubs, Timken one side, and generic the other. The generic failed, and was replaced with Timken. The car did another 5000 miles, and no sign of damage or wear when stripped and re greased last year.

They are £9.75 for a reason.

I can remember only a few years ago when disc brake front taper rollers were getting on for £50 a wheel. They have come down in price a lot now.

They're still a bit pricey Tom, for the effort, the time, and the annoyance, worth the extra money!

new old stock ones on ebay come up now and then and usually go for around £30

I had those last time i replaced mine, due to the fact an MOT was immenant and i was skint. I made sure to push plenty of grease through the bearings, greased the inner and outer race, Tightened up the bearings to torque, then kept tightening until the split pin lined up. Job done, and theyve been okay for a year although i do low milage.
One thing to note is though, im sure most of you are aware that after torquing up, Keep tightening to fit the split pin, dont back the nut off to fit the split pin, which is probably the biggest cause of bearing failure ive seen personally. Ive seen the same set of bearings as myself last nothing more than a couple of months for this very reason.

Most of it is down to installation if you Dont buy the cheapest things you can get your hands on, i had a good look at the bearings i bought from minispares before i installed them, they're not actually all that bad.

I'd like to think that the bearing failure was not the result of the way I installed them, since I'm anal as fuck when it comes to stuff like this making sure everything is spotlessly clean, and the bearings are truely packed with grease (special attachment for the grease gun *happy*). I even have a 600lbft calibrated 3/4 drive torque wrench to tighten the nut.

Seems funny that the failed bearing was replaced with the exact same instalation methods and has not suffered the same fate.

Biggest problem I have come across is that the spacers are a gnats dick to long resulting in an ever so slight play in the bearing assembly when torqued up to the correct level.

It's probably just pick of the bunch Colin, obviously as they are cheaper they aren't made to the exacting tolerances of the timkens, your spacer may have caused the failure, on the other hand i may have got lucky twice. Obviously i shall replace mine with timken when the time comes, but im going to see how far these cheaper bearings take me before they need replacing!

Dragging this up. Just bought a pair of front bearings from ebay. £28 each.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250925266806

They came in halfrauds packaging, but are timkin bearings.

Anybody want some cheepo bearings? *smiley*

You've not gone and left it wound up at 4000000lb/ft for a couple of weeks have you?

But then, when was the calibration equipment used to calibrate the calibration equipment calibrated?

Does anyone on here look at bearings on Simply bearing.com ?
You need to kniow the dimensions or the bearing reference number and then you choose the quality and price you want to pay.My experience is that they have everything in stock and despatch very promptly .

They seem to have every kind of bush or bearing imaginable.
