Yeah, too much money. Drops aren't included either.

I built mine for cheaper than that with the drops and diff.

I like how they have a picture of a helical box too.

Guessworks boxes do seem very good from word of mouth, a mate of mine had a recently new guessworks box fitted to a mini he bought, it was pretty good as far as changing gear goes, nice and tight haha.

If using it on the highway, wouldn't the ratios in a std box be just as appropriate?

I have a 3.1 and a clubman set in clubby and I think it's bob on. Any taller would be a mistake though I think.

Had the same in the van on 13s. I'm going for a 3.2 on 10s for the mini.

That gearbox being rebuilt in that link. Have a look at the dog teeth. I've thrown away better gears...

On the topic of bad gears how do you tell if they are bad? Can they be measured? Do the races in the inside where out?

You can generally tell if the teeth have any pitting etc. Its worth checking the cones on the gears, if they wear too much then the bulk rings will never bite and you'll end up with a crunchy gearbox no matter what you do.

For the cost of the minispares gear sets, you'd probably be best off buying new, unless you know the seller is genuine.

Just a thought, but buying a Friday Afternoon box from previous mentioned seller and having it shipped to Aus would be a right bastard, if you were unhappy with it.

IMHO Buy a gearset and bearings and build the box yourself. or get someone out there to do it for you.
