Hey guys, how are you doing?

So first of all I would like to point out im not a chav that likes "20inch subs dats so bigggg it makes da boot pop open mayyyttteeeee" I just like a decent sound quality.

Now onto what I would like to ask.

I currently only have two Sony XS-F1334 speakers under the rear bench in the mini and tbh they sound shit. I have an Alpine head unit which is pretty modern as it works with my iphone through an ipod connector not an aux - what I would like to know is those of you with subwoofers, what size have you got and where did you put them? I also have two smaller alpine speakers to put in the front - where could I mount these as well? I HATE the look of those boxes people put under the dash on the left and right hand sides so would love some suggestions please :)

Thanks!

Craig

Years ago in John's Jet Black we put a 10" sub in the centre of the rear shelf and 2 6x9s in the outer edges of the shelf, then some appropriate capacitors and a 4 channel amp and bob's your aunty. Sounded really good and didn't take much doing.

I've been playing with a single 12" for a while, and anything in the boot sounds shit. Too much panel rattle and you can't hear it at low volumes. 10 inch aren't too bad in the boot though upon saying that.
I had my small 10cm alpines screwed in behind the fresh air vent holes in my old dash, and a mate of mine has some pointing downwards behind the dash that don't sound too bad.
I have the problem at the moment that my mini is my only car, and I've always had a bitta audio in it and I'd like to keep it that way. But, the current pair of 10's ive swapped for a pair of rear lights are good subs and I'd like to fit them, but the rear bench enclosure weighs a tonne and i don't want to fit that. So I'll have to fibreglass something up. And then with a s/c box and drops is it worth putting it all in anyway, although I'm soundproofing the bulkhead. Decisions decisions :/

I'm also in the same position as ypu, I'm not a chav, i care more about sound quality than songs dragged off YouTube at a terrible bitrate played on ebays cheapest tat 300000watt 15inch subs. There's one particular mini with probably just that at shows i keep hearing, and it's extremely fucking annoying, many people feel the need to put their foot through his sub. Rant over!

Have you looked into these:

http://www.vibeaudio.co.uk/car/blackdeath-speakers/

Power them with a good amp, they could be quite good as they produce base, mid and trebbile. If you need more, you could fit speakers into the doors or the air-vent holes.

That's what I am planning.

I currently building 2 x 4lsealed boxes to fit under the back seats. Installing 2 JL 6.5" Audio 6w3v3 subwoofers. They are only 150w Rms each, but sound awesome Considering there size and weight. They are never going to win a sound off, but offer excellent sound quality.

I was kind of hoping to hide them so they wern't in sight if im honest with you guys so the under the rear bench option is deffinatley something that I would be interested in. I don't suppose you'd be making a set to sell on? *tongue*

As Andy says 6x9's and a 10" free air sub running off a 4x200w amp using caps on the 6x9's to filter the bass and low pass filter on amp for sub. All hidden with a home made stealth shelf. Was loud enough to get me pulled by the five'o and the quality was pretty good to boot. Would have been better with some dynamat or something to line the boot.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Sub really does need to be firing into the cabin to be 100% effective. Im sure if you placed 2 8" under the rear bench that would work well. Use under the rear seats as an enclosure, the board has to go at an angle but it has been done before :)

hmmm the board already goes at a slight angle I guess, it has two 13cm holes cutout already (came with the car :/ ) I suppose I could get a new bit of wood and fit those 6.5" subs into the sides and then the speakers closer to the exhaust tunnel and then leave the amp under the rear bench?

Have a look on there at roofless's install.
I'd put the amp in the boot, there isn't really room under the rear bench, it seems there are some good 6.5" subs out there you can utilise :)

I would get rid of the full range rear speakers altogther and just fit components up front, with bass from either 8" or 6" subs in properly constructed enclosure to manufactures spec. What amp are you running? 8" will fit with rear bins, but will need to be slanted. I did consider this but they weigh an extra 5kg and are more visible.

I'v currently got a pair of Focal 5.25" components in the doors using some fabricated enclosures i knocked up using the standard door pockets and a pair of coaxials in the rear shelf. Then have a 6" JL audio sub up front in a centre console I fiberglassed myself. Still in the process of setting it up and running the speakers in but once its all sorted its going to sound nice.

Its all very low-key and standard looking but gives a nice warm sound without being pannel rattlingly loud or bassy.

Those are what i was given, i painted the cones satin black to help hide them a bit.
I'm debating as to whether to only fit 1 or the pair, as they look pretty meaty pieces of kit! That's if i decide to fit anything at all, still unsure at this stage. If i fit anything it'll have to be easily removable for mitp and avon!

okay so those two subs that I have that I mentioned earlier are 7.5" in diameter - so here is my plan *happy*

Make one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Mini-Und...=item1e68753725

and put the two subs in the ends and the two speakers nearer the middle like this:

The white is the subs and the black is the speakers. I was going to put the amp under the seats behind the board if itll fit and if not then in the passenger side rear bin.

What do you all think? Would it work?

I don't think you'll get the best out of the speakers there, too close to the subs. They'll just get drowned out.

one day boost will be mine!

Mmm :/ my head unit has a setting for the subwoofer and then the bass of hte speakers, so if I put the speaker base right down then It may be okay? May need a re-think - they arn't powerful subs just want something that can produce soem bass - my current speakers distort at the thought of bass

You would need to enclose the subs seperately to the speakers to stop the air movement of the sub upsetting the speakers.

Why not put the speakers in the parcel shelf to properly seperate them?

Minis are very difficult to install a nice system into.

I'm going through it my self. I have imported Front speaker pods as the so called mini specialist ones are utter shite. I've welded some brackets to the inner arch and used those as mounts for the enclosures.

I'm still debating on what subs to fit. I have 10" DEI and 8" JL subs but can't decide!

The 10's will fit below the rear side windows above the pockets with an enclosure that slots into the pockets. The 8's will either go there at blow the seat squab.

Either will be a challenge!!

Be interesting to see what other people come up with

I have had a 12" in the rear shelf but the free air subs of today don't look all that great unless you spend £300+ and I have speakers that I'd like to utilise so that what I'm going to do....
