*surprised* really? hhmmm i will reconsider then, can anyone else backup that it is not offset? i donyt mind a none offset one if its cheeper as it isent being mated to an absolute monster engine, bu to pay more for less quality i do mind.

thanks, dan

The last minisport 4-pin I saw was not offset - but it'd still be stronger and more reliable than a single pin... Just not as good as the minispares diff (which is not available).

Personally - I'd rebuild what you have with a new pin, thrusts and pinions (if needed) and new fibre washers. Remember to inspect the bore of the pinions - any sign of pitting/damage, change them. Check the fit of your pinions against your new pin aswell.

I'm pretty sure Miglias are still using a 'single' pin diff - anyone confirm? I'm sure they last a lot longer than 'one race' aswell...

When they're available, but the minispares unit!

Check out the stuff I wrote on the 4-pin diffs for more info.

dave i read your thread a while ago on 4-pin diffs and found it verry interesting.
can anyone have a good guess at how long my standard rebuilt diff might last, expected 130bhp road use with a few drags and i am verry mechanically sympathetic, i.e no wheel spinning round corners etc.
tbh i am expecting a full engine rebuild in about 20k miles give or take some so if it will take that without me having to say no i cant floor it becouse its only a standard diff then its fine, and saves me a lot of money to spend else were*wink*

THANKS!! DAN

Dan - I'm sure others will add more, but mechanical sympathy will make the greatest difference to life expectancy.
Take your time building the diff - checking the planet gears carefully and it will be as good as it can be - which will almost certainly be good enough...

Sometimes the ally casings have what look like a spiders web of cracks but in fact is raised material left over I assume from when they were manufactured?
If these are what you mean then nothing to worry about? I suspect it is.
If they are genuinely cracks then they are DEFINATELY something to worry about.......

spoke to lee (metty turbo on here) he got a x-pin from minisport and he said the pins are offset, but its 100 quid cheeper for me to rebuild my diff and it should do the job so i will just do that, but if you want one in a hurry you know were to go:)

update from gary at minispares.

the 4 pin diffs aint the problem its the company which makes the planet gears doesnt make the mini ones any more so the company which makes the diffs has loads on the shelfs but are waiting on some planet gears so they can be released.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

yes you are right jimster its the company that makes them for rover , doesnt any more so the company which makes the diffs has had to source a different make for the planets.

well thats according to gary, the guy who has just sent me a hs4 needle valve and seat when i need a turbo one.!!!!!!!!.

come on gary get it sorted mate lol.
