Double Sided Rivets

Chap, Ive looked on the internet for some double sided rivets, as in rivets that have 2 flat sided faces. All I can find is the production of jeans lol

I want to rivet 2 pieces of Ally together but keep but sides flat.

Can anyone think of a way of doing this??

Welding is an option but seems a little over kill for what its for. Wils got what I had in mind.

Im guessing theres a special tool to that goes with those wil.

15 should more than cover it. They're just for the tops of my alu door skins.

I think the trick is holding the side you're not hammering.

To be fair it's not something that I've ever done. But I saw Fred Dibnah hammering the shit out of some red hot Iron ones on his boiler. He was using a pnumatic hammer; probably a bit overkill on some small ally ones though.

simple ordinary pop rivets.

apply the rivet, punch through the steel center pull, and then hammer the remaining aluminium 'rivet' flat

What size are you after I have a couple hundred rivets at home. Normally you need a rivet gun and appropriate snap and riveting block. You will need the softest rivet you can buy.

Your best bet its to use eighth or five thirty second rivets of the appropriate head style much larger and you will have a job forming the tail. Aircraft sheet metal work and structural repair is part of what I so if you need any help or advice more than happy.

Mike, get countersunk solid rivets. Countersink both pieces of metal and peen over the rivet into the countersink.
Aston Martins were full of those things, I must have done thousands of them

Get the aluminium rivets - theres steel, copper etc.

Cut them down to length with side cutters - you only want about 3-4mm protruding to peen down otherwise you'll have a lump. Dont hammer too hard or you'll distort the aluminium that youre joining

I use a punch to get a dome but you want it flat so just a hammer

I had a go at solid rivets when i was back in college making tools. It was steel ones, i don't remember it being too difficult.

A washer behind the rivet? As in place rivet through hole, put washer on the back, use rivet gun. Voila.

we use this type of thing at work for what your attempting but outs are massive. you have both sides either domed or CSK and one of the sides has a rivet stem, you tighten it up as much as you can then pull it like a normal rivet and itll leave both ends with whatever head it has :)
