I am looking for a top engine steady to go on the thermostat side of the engine. However I don't want the normal type that goes on top of the thermostat. I would like one to connect to the water pump, or around there. I have had a look at all the main suppliers, but can't find what I am looking for. Does this sort of thing exist, or did I dream it? Any pointers in the right direction appreciated.

Avonbar used to do one like that. Not sure if they still do. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Thanks for the links, that is what I was looking for. I knew that the bulkhead box would be an issue.

I've got the Avonbar one as well. Nice piece of kit. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

My thinking is to try and not use the thermostat bolts though as, 1 I don't like the idea and 2 it is a pain if I have to change the head gasket. Hence why I want to attach it to the water pump. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

I've been looking for a similar solution, found two suitable answers, first from Gerald Dale (Mondo Sport):

The problem with both those solutions is that they're not really a solution. The bulkhead mounting is not a real issue. It's how to mount to the engine.

They both look nice, but where do they bolt to?

I've welded two strengthening plates to the bulkhead too where the brackets will mount. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

I should have a little more space than that as I don't have that breather fitted.

Using Gregs idea, it wouldn't be difficult to make up a cranked piece of metal up to support the main load bearing bolt. You could fix it onto the bolt next to the alternator mount. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fusion-Fabri..._homepage_panel

I have made a bracket now and it will be single shear. I could make it not to be single shear, but the bracket is probably not strong enough to justify it. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

There will be when it is finished. It is not dissimilar to those already shown attached to the water pump. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk
