where does it say its 177? I read it as 125ps which is around 115 - 120bhp??? :S Think its a fantasitic idea just dont understand why car makers are like "oh lets use turbos there a great idea" now when theyve been around for a long time

yeah, but why didnt they do this before? I dont get it, more power lmore fuel economy and less emissions? I dont get it?

Its like why dont they supercahrge diesels instead of turbo'ing them - reduce the amount of lag they have??

bah :) /rant

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

they didn't have the efi technology to get the fuel/emissions benefits that they do now.

It looks very tall

I wonder if it would fit in a Mini engine bay

The modern VNT turbos that most common rail (electronically injected) diesels now use, have very little lag and boost from very low RPM.

As Andy says, it's advances in engine management that are allowing all of this to happen.

Have a read up on some of the stuff that SC are doing with diesels :)

Give it a few months, there may be a twin turbo version of that 3 cylinder, designed for the Mondeo!

The turbo itself may be of use as it is a small size and makes maximum torque very low down the range (like 1500 rpm or so If I remember correctly), but will require some work to make it fit! Continental job I think as well, apparently spins up to 248,000 which I can't really believe!

Daihatsu did this almost 25 years ago... fuel economy not as good though

We're one ahead, we're running this engine on our ecu next week on the engine dyno, we'll see what we can squeeze out of it and how it behaves. Everything is tiny on the engine and it has full torque very low in the rpm range. The ford development engineers claim the hardware is good for over 200hp, we really fancy putting one in a mk1 escort, 200hp, 50+mpg and very light weight-oh and the bell housing is type 9 pattern!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

The other thing we're playing with in the next two weeks is the 335 twin turbo diesel, rumours that 400hp and 700nm are possible on stock components-we are looking for an e46 compact to drop it in!!

After that it's the v10 m5 engine looking forward to seeing how that screams at 9000rpm.

Impressive! Cant quite believe that the larger cars will eventually have a tiny 1 litre engine.

1.0 with Twin sequinal turbo's and a eletionic supercharger in the pipe line aswell. (but this is ford...)

The Eco boost range is very impressive, we engine dyno'd the 1.6 and 2.0 versions last year on our ecu, the 1.6 made just over 200hp and is a neat weight/size of unit based on the 1.6 Sigma engine. The 2.0 - duratec based, made 285hp on stock components, with a bit of luck we'll be having a go at the v6 ecoboost from the us soon.

o/t but was googling after-market management for common rail diesels (cant mess with the ecu in my tdci mondeo like i could with the good ol' bosch EDC in my rover 75) and every other reference kept praising you guys, love the 3.0 tdv6!

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

My dad just got rid of a 335d in favour of a e92 m3,,the 3.0 twin turbo is an awesome engine just with a re map. Would like to see 400bhp john.

Getting over 200 bananas does not seem that optomistic. Look at our engine and the internals and that is a 60 year old design. Mind you I would be very impressed if it made 200 with the stock Turbo, not that I know the details.

Ben, the Ford guy was talking about 200hp continuous, they have at dunton ran an engine at this level constantly for days without breaking it, so it'll obviously do a lot more for shorter engine life, as with all ecoboosts it's turbo size and injector capacity that limits power, we'll certainly see how much the fox motor will give on stock parts this week!

Benny, we'll see what it does, we have removed the SPF/cat unit as it's not needed for our application, there's plenty of power hiding in it!

Evolution-thank you, the qt wildcat is running the 3.0 twin turbo v6 and it is simply mad on a sequential gearbox!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

Exactly, modern design, materials, quality control and tolerances and a mass produced engine is a precision bit of kit. Pity they all still rely on crude oil.

Near Paris - France

Pretty much all car makers are working on small capacity turboed gasoline engine.
That's the best way to meet CO2 requirement.

There is a Megane with a 1,2 direct injection turbo gasoline aboute to hit the market.
Twin clutch gerabox too !

Rusty by nature

It come from a Friend who works for ford and he reads alot up online aswell, I can't be 100% on it but it has been done before, it takes the mechanical lag away from the engine increasing BHP

And hasn't stopped the 16valve boys getting 16valve K series and Vtecs engines in standard minis :) sure t can be done
