Ive just finished fitting the rest of my megajolt bits, and it started up great, was all working nicely, then took ignition coil off and dizzy out, and it worked fine for a few seconds then a rattling noise, so I switched it off, had a look around, nothing had come loose, so i tried it again and the same thing happened.

I thought a piece of the distributor might still be in the gearbox? It came out with the shaft on the end but I don't know how it all works inside the gearbox casing..

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks

Did you remeber to remove the dizzy drive shaft?

It's not fixed to the end of the dizzy. It needs to removed seperately :(

If it isnt attached then no.. :/

By trying to start it will I have dislodged it? How would you normally go about taking it off?

Sorry, in what?

How do I get to the dizzy drive? Is it on the front of the engine? On the block? Gearbox?

5/16" UNF (use one of the long rocker cover studs or left hand radiator to mounting bracket bolts) but if it has run enough to have jumped out of its lower bearing you are f**ked - you will need to separate the engine/gearbox to recover the bits and assess the damage.

It's where the dizzy was (or maybe not any more....)

The round hole in the front of the block would have had a large circular bit with an offset slot. In the centre of the offset slot is the 5/16" threaded hole.

If it jumped out of its lower bearing it's now mangled in the gearbox.

This is for an A+ engine?

All I can see at the moment, is my dipstick, the threaded hole for the dizzy retaining bracket, the dizzy blanking plug and a large nut to the left of that.

Take the blanking plug off - you should be able to see the drive at the bottom of opening. The centre of the drive has a threaded hole the othere note to aid removal.

Thanks a lot guys, once again the people of turbo inks save the day *happy*

I'd left the drive in, and as it turns out, the rad mounting bolt is perfect for getting it out.

Thanks again

Note to self: if engine makes a rattling metallic noise, find problem before attempting to start the again again.

And the drive was complete? Not teeth missing?

I did the very same thing in my 998 - the drive got chewed a little and a few teeth ended up in the oil/gearbox.

The dizzy drive always gets forgotten

The teeth were a bit mashed, but no huge chunks or anything.
