How do you get them out? mine seem to be interference fit. Is it a case of brute force ot is there a special tool?

brute force; If i recall though, you may be able to drift out from the opposite end with a suitable punch and technical adjuster

There are special tools for removal and refitting - I have them and it makes like a LOT easier.

If you get stuck or just don't want to do it, chuck them in the post.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

I did mine by drifting them out with the arm held in a vice.

They won't come out in one piece like this, but as your replacing them it doesn't matter.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I have one to do too Andy, I can't even get the pin out of mine - its still on the car ATM.

When I did the radiums arm I just cut through the bearing with a hacksaw blade then chiseled it out.

Highly unlikely if they have been in there a reasonable time I'm afraid, even with the special tool or an internal puller.

The outer sleeve is just too week and the smallest amount of corrosion will cause them to be stuck.

If you do resort to violence (ie, drifting them from the opposite end), be careful not to put any scores down the bore of the arm - just the tiniest score will make the new one stick and distort on its way in.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Slide hammer with internal puller attachment. But they are fucking tight! Unfortunately, you might have to replace the bearings, which ever way to try and get them out.

What are you trying to achieve by removing and reinstalling the same bearings? Shot blasting or something? If so can you not make some plugs on our lathe and leave the brgs where they are??

I found it easier to destroy the bearing in the arm and then use a dremel to grind a slot in the outter bearing race and let it spring together then the race drops out :)

What tendst to happen when removing them by which ever method, is the inner spun edge is bent inwards locking the rollers.

They are not that expensive, £15 for a pin kit

On a side note, I have a few radius arm rollers if they are of any use in this bizzare machine?

Brute force + plenty of ignorance = broken bearings...

Alex, I will PM you about your tool once I've given them the Paul Wigginton treatment.

have been told to weld up the inside of the bearing and drift it out while it's still hot.

just trat them with a screwdriver so te needles fall out, then run a dremel down them till they have a slit then they'll come out.
